Dude, this is much better than the last one you posted. This one has more personality and is a lot more dynamic as well. The playing is also more advanced too. The structure is still a little repetitive though--same beat, same intensity, similar feel throughout. I like stuff that has more variation--more distinctly different sections that aren't just slightly different. A sense of progression or shift if mood is also a good thing. |

Thanks Rob! I will look into increasing the dynamics; funny you should say that, one of the things I love about certain bands like RUSH and Metallica is how they have huge variations in dynamics and mood.
I think the repetitive thing might be in part due to the software I'm using. It's sort of riff based, where you record 4,8 or whatever # of measures, then use those as building blocks to put a song together. (Rifftracker) _________________ Francis Tsai

If it allows you to just record one very long loop--like song length, then you're no longer restricted by a loop-based sequencing paradigm. That way, you just use it like any conventional linear sequencer.
Or, if you want to stay in that loop-based mindset, break up your segments into even finer detail. Here are some ideas:
Stereo ping some delayed notes in one loop, a power chord riff in another, a 16th note non-delayed riff in another, a melody-based riff in another, an atmospheric one of just the pick sliding up and down the frets with some crazy effects applied to it in another, and more segments of interesting textures created by using effects and playig the guitar in unconventional ways--slapping the bridge pickup, striking the strings with a blunt object, flicking/snaping the strings with your fingers/nails...etc.
Once you have created a small library of very interesting loops/atmospheric effects, you can rearrange them and loop them in any way you want. Chop them up in a sample editor. Go apeshit. |
