helloooo and thank you for clicking my boringly titled topic. I started a painting and I would like critiqage...I am somewhat stuck and would like someone's input on the painting.
I started the sketch shown below...I knew I wanted some type of little girl in a dream world, so I drew a dress with feet and added a simple face without any facial expression. I wanted to have her standing on the water...
I wanted to make it seem somewhat soft with some type of lighting, so I chose blue for that. I have not yet painted in the girl's face or shoes. Here is where it's at right now:
I want to make it seem more like a dream, rather than a fantasy scene. I was thinking of putting a floating fish or something...
Any ideas? I'm really open to any criticism. And if anyone has any tips on doing water that would be great. Much loves. |

That's coming along nicely.
For a critique, I'd say that the staging looks a little forced. There's not a lot of overlap between the background, middle, and fore. Each sort of has it's own separate area in the composition. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Very nice work so far! I like the rendering of the fantasy jungle stuff... I've got some tips and crits here, hope it helps.
Maybe you started detailing the background too soon and should really have done the girl a bit to keep the overview. I've always learned to keep everything worked out about the same way, so you can judge better about your work.
The (flat) water on the right and underneath the girl does not really look a lot like water to me, I think because the contrast is a bit low and the shapes are to randomly aligned. You could add some reflections maybe. Smudging from left to right does wonders as well .
I am a bit annoyed by the fish. It is a bit too big, orange and like an icon of a fish imho. Maybe you could change its pose a bit, so it's not in sideview and light it more like it is a part of the scene.
The girl appears to be looking over it. Maybe you could make them interact in some way.
Hope this helps. Keep it up! |
