The life cycle of a kettle.

The actual drawing itself is 2 feet high by 24 feet wide. Pencil on 200gsm paper.

To digitise it I had to photograph it in about 20 sections, then stitch it together in photoshop. The file was getting on for 40000 pixels wide and my poor wee 2 gigs of RAM were struggling to keep up!

This illustration documents the usage of materials in the life cycle of a kettle, from the quarry, through a steel works and other factory processes, packaging, distribution, warehouse, showroom, mass domestic use of power and water (fossil fuels?), and the product's eventual fate as landfill. The scale and industry of the drawing is intended to reflect the industry of the processes depicted within.

It was drawn in response to the DOTT07 "Stuffometer" brief for the D&AD student awards.

Ah, that were fun.
