samson, your use of soft lighting is working beautifully to choose the emphasis of the piece

i really need to learn that trick, because i tend to put too much detail/confusion everwhere Rolling Eyes

Rassel Tassel: so glad that your back. I really dig the last two, especially the third.

I went way out of my way to destroy this image. I'm not this bad, really, but I just like to experiment.

I know this isn't good art. I'm only posting it in the hopes of getting some feedback on what i can do better next time. I'm trying to learn to use texture, but in this image the texture and what i had didn't go together too well... and I failed in getting the look of the metal.

Anyway I needed to do something other than just a face, it can't be good to ONLY do one thing over and over and never practice anything else.

Capt fred,thom,thanks fellas

P-rik,these are all from life or reworked sketches from life,so that is my main influence when it comes to shadow colour.
However,I am always conscious of the light temperature>shadow temperature in my painting...for example the warm light=cool shadows relationship.
After I get that down on my painting,I start thinking about reflected light.

zhu,llama,octavian,thom,capt fred,rassel,xia,p-rk,all great
