Congratulations Daryl, you had my vote.
I don't want to sound pissy or anything (never intended nor expected to win), but in case there is a next time we really need to do it differently. This whole voting system was less than ideal. A simple poll thread would've probably made better looking results. I don't mean to say that people don't deserve the spots they got, but that the different amount of votes each entry received shows that people did either not get how voting works or they didn't bother. Apart from that the amount of people who voted is laughable at best for a populated forum like this, maybe due to the external link in a first post of a thread? I mean I didn't even see right away I had to enter my painting there, nor did anyone really know how it was meant to be done, judging from how some entered their names, some their paintings titles, etc.
Hope it didn't sound too ungrateful Capt. Fred, it's nice you set up that page and all. I just wonder if we could make this all a bit less confusing, simpler and more robust next time and get more people to enter and vote. |

Well, I have to agree with you at some points however the whole thing is meant to be for fun. It worked last time and also this time if you ask me. Of course there could be more people voting. I have no idea how to get more people to join in the end,..ten is pretty good so far though. It's a fun challenge. Just made to bring some freshness to sijun. I am sure next time it'll work out better! |

Congrats Daryl
Altough my vote went to gLitterbug.
About the voting system - I agree with gLitterbug, I know it's about fun etc', still it was pretty complicated, for some reason the site was translated to my language with messed up the entire page, and I could barely understand how to vote (and up untill now i'm not sure I got it right). |

gLitterbug, you're right. I can't remember why we didn't do a poll before but there was some reason, which may or may not have applied this time. I am totally open to a better way than that out-of-the-way challenge page.
I think, the challenge is to generate enough results for a decent spread of results.
When there are say 10 or 15 entries to choose from in a poll, and a given number of voters, each with only one vote to give away, then the scores will be fairly low and there will be loads of entries with the same score, you know, a few people with 4 votes and a few people with 3 votes and and a few people with 2 votes, a few people with 1 vote and a few with none.
The benefit of the rating page is that each voter can vote on each entry, so the are loads more results for given number of voters, and a better spread on the ranking.
BTW, With the rating system, more votes on a picture does not mean a higher score. It just means that the score is an average of a larger number of people's opinions, and has been determined to more decimal places, sort of thing. |

I have an idea for you guys with the theme you are having here.
We are getting assignments in my school and those are anchored within real job-situtations. Maybe you could take these themed threads here a bit further with giving it a job approach.
Maybe some of you who work with illustration could give a few pointers to how an illustration is made and what kind of feedback or requirements you have been given from a customer.
These are good things to teach yourselves and should be good practise, we do it all the time in the decorative business. |

a good idea - we do that in school all the time too. It might make the competition sound like work for some people then, but oh well |
