Hi there ryan, i think you're getting better, but how about changing the subject matter every once in a while? lots of guns and marines, which is fun yeah, but perhaps try and paint from life for a while?

Hey Ryan, one thing I've been meaning to suggest to you for a while now is to concentrate more on global value distribution (the whole picture), instead of using so much local contrast (on individual parts).

You have so much local contrast in the various parts of the soldier in the first piece that the result looks kind of scratchy and visually jumbled.

Focus on strong silhouettes first, and when you begin adding details, build them up with *small* changes in value. The human eye is very sensitive to value changes, and I think you're hammering yours home a little harder than is necessary to convey texture.

You've improved lately though, so it may be something you're aware of.

Ryan: I don't know if you're joking or being serious when you say stuff like that, but we should all be on the same team here.

People are trying to do you favors. What I mean is if I had showed up at sijun with my art how it was (this garbage, for example: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v330/samphil/TwoFacesClose.jpg ), and refused to take criticism I never would have gotten better.

Whenever I post anything I hope for good remarks, but I'm also really hoping people will give me lots of criticism so I can get better.

So I'm trying to say criticism isn't necessarily a matter or opinion, sometimes there are problems with art that the artist needs to overcome. In these cases criticism is extremely valuable and good.

People have given you lots of criticism, but it's not because they don't like you or want to rag on your work. It's because they want to see you get better. And it's also probably because they think you have what it takes to get better.

I'm not saying this because I want to lecture you or because I think I'm smarter than you. I'm just trying to say that the criticism you've been getting isn't rudeness, it's a good thing.

Yeah Ryan.

If people in here bother to actually critique your work it's because they see the promise of great things.
The feeling of posting something and not getting pats on ones shoulders is a bit of a slap in the face (we've all tried that). But you'll find that it's not gonna help you.
What IS helping is critique or an overpaint that illustrates alternative lighting or brushstrokes on ones work. THAT can be very very helpful.

So please, for your own sake stop being rude in the speed thread and continue painting warriors and tanks (you might even wan't t oapologize). If people say they'd like to see some other subject matter in your paintings, tell them "shure I see what you mean, but this is what keeps me going and this way I'll get better" or something.
I for one enjoy your stuff. But critisism is the only way forward.

Just keep going and you'll find this a place to boost your skills, I'm shure.

I would like to imprint to your brain that you'll use larger brush as possible. it is the ORDER from the God!
