Hi,
I have a problem. Today I tried to open my file I'm working on in Painter 9.5 and I got a "Bad .riff Data" error.
Ok, I know this sounds stupid, but before this I used to manually copy and paste the file I'm working on every 5 minutes in Explorer. Thought this was "annoying" I used an automatic backup app. And to my stupidity, when the file somehow got 'bad', the backup app copied the bad file on top of the good file, and it wasn't an incremental backup, but a full replacement - the reason was I don't have enough hard disk space and my cd writer went kaput - I don't have enough money to buy a new one when this happened, let alone can afford any kind of RAID system. Either way it was my fault for being care free and complacent.
I searched this forum and I found a link here
http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=37016&highlight=riff+data
but I can't access any of the links in there. I can't access http://www.conceptart.org/ either and I can't access Corel Painter forum at CGTalk, hell I can't even use google and all of the links that I got from metacrawler don't work. Presumably something with me living in South East Asia - you know about the undersea cable being damaged...
So anyone in here can help me with this? Anyone had any luck in salvaging bad .riff files? I read somewhere you use a script of some sort, I'm not sure. I have worked on the image for 1 month since the last backup and I really hope I can salvage it.
Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated. And sorry for the long post.
Thanks in advance. |

AAAARGGGGGHHH!!!
I cannot fucking believe this! It's not a script for fixing files, it's just a script IN CASE painter records something! AAARGHH! What a waste of time!
Now I only have a low res version of part of a layer of the art in jpg that's all I have left!
God I hate this stupid backup software and I hate Painter! ARGGHHH!!!!!!
$#%#$%$^$^%$^!!!!! |

Why backup? Just save your files like painting_v001.psd, painting_v002.. etc.
Hit Ctrl+S to save often. I don't see what's the problem here really. |

^^^^
This file is huge for me. Like I said I used to copy paste one file manually as backup as I went along saving it every 5 minutes (yes I did use the ctrl S and use windows explorer to copy and paste the previous copy) and delete the previous one and things went awry after I use this stupid automatic backup software. I don't have enough disk space and I just work as a laborer to earn a living so I don't always have enough money to buy computer stuff. My computer is barely a minimum requirement for Painter.
Anyway, I learned my lesson and I'm starting all over again. I still love Painter, though, MUAHAHAHA! |
