no dodge, no burn, no smudge.

and stay away from those over-saturated colors.

They are right. I got very similar feedback the first time I posted to this site under a user name that has slipped my mind lol. Also if you can get a graphic pad (or whatever it's called) so you don't have to paint with a mouse. I got the cheep version for about $100 a few years ago and it's still alive and well. Check out www.wacom.com to see what I mean.

Take the sam work and redo it with their advice and see where you get! Good luck.

Where is the other half of the image? I'm kidding...but that composition really doesn't quite do the trick for me.

It's nice that you're testing out the effects and stuff that you can squeeze out of the software that you're using. Just keep in mind; no amount of glitter and sparkles will cover up the flaws of the underlying drawing, so work on where your weakness is. If you're not using a tablet i would highly recommend doing at least a good 3/4 of the way in pencils or other media where you actually have some liberty before going digital.

If you're using a tablet i would probably still recommend that you try getting the image to work in black and white (with shadows) and then apply colors. Try to just use the brush tool and pick the colors manually (sure you can use the eyedropper but it's sometimes best not to, because you think more about what color you are using and where, and why).

I don't mean to say that this is a bad image, there is no such thing as a bad image...at least in my point of view. Art is something you do as a means towards something greater...a heightened state of perception perhaps? Enlightenment? X-ray vision? I don't know, you'll have to ask the pros. An image you make can never be the end result of your artistic endeavour; something that fails or succeeds. A step on a path you trail is always a step, short or long, it always brings you closer to where you want to go Smile [/philosophy]
