This is a project for studio art. I'll be putting 45 minutes or more into this every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday hopefully.
I want the image of this submarine moving along through this ruined underwater mysterious city. Once I have my building and sub mostly build I plan to put lights on the bottom of the sub to give the image of the lights sweeping back and forth...scanning the depths.
Painter IX is the program.
This is just 45 minutes of trying to put color where I want it, etc. Mostly with airbrushes, a little pen used.
All advice is appreciated, at any stage (there not much to comment on right now though, it's sort of a big mess )
Thanks. |

Hi, I suggest that you look trough some reference materials. I guess you are looking for skene with backlight, so in that case movies is the best place to start.
If I remember right, waterworld had some nice underwater scenes. |

That's for the advice.
I had already done this before I saw your comment. My moniter is very bright (I've realized my art looks darker on other computers and sometimes prints darker than I want it to), so I can paint dark and see differences in shades that I now think probably just look black on other computers.
So I brightened the whole thing a bit in this next 45 minutes, tried to consolidate my colors and add some dim background shapes.
Petri: I have final exams this week so I might not have a chance to check out movies for reference. Thanks though, I'll see what I can find. Just want you to know I'm not blowing off your advice. |

Ok I really had to rush this week because this piece is a couple days late...so unfortunately because it's rushed I'm not totally happy with how it turned out.
Anyway here's one more stage of process and then the finished piece.
I might make a thread for this in the finished section to get more crits, seeing as this is pretty much finished now. |
