Hey guys,

After my last 'thought' about doing a mattepainting, i was sidetracked and ended up doing something else, which turned out horrible. So, soon after that, I started a mattepainting that dealt with the weaknesses I portrayed in that... horrible attempt.
Hope you guys like it.

Final:

Hey annis! very cool painting, really nice colors.

i was just thinking about something.. in the foreground, isn't that a thin cover of snow on the rocks? because the parts you have painted are not looking the same.

the mountains in the far back could perhaps need some snow covered tops as well.. just a thought.

well done!

Awesome. That's really a great matte. You got me inspired.
I can think of many things that could happen if this was animated.
It could work out as a real matte for a movie. Well done! That'S the way to go.

No crits from me.
Keep up the good work.

Looking good!

One crit that comes to mind. You have a lot of changes in the warm and cool colors, both in foreground and background. One thing that could enhance the feeling of depth would be to divide them more clearly, like a warmer foreground and a cooler background.

Maybe there could be a tad more atmospheric perspective as well, like a bit less contrast in some parts in distance.

Uh, I may be hallucinating, It's late Smile

Great stuff anyways!

thanks guys Smile

notic> I thought that it had snow in there, but then when I really looked, I figured that it might just be a drastic change in warm and cool colors, making it seem like colors. But I'm not sure. But you may be right. I'll try to get back to it and add snow and see how ti works. Smile. thanks

max> thanks dude. I'm kind of... scared, of trying to animate it. Looking at the terrain of all this, its going to be difficult, and I don't have much experience with 3d programs :/.

mikko> thanks! i tried the atmospheric perspective as I was painting it, but for some reason, it made it look dull. I think I did it wrong, perhaps. But, if i go back to this, I'll definitely play with the atmospheric perspective! Smile

Annis- Great work, you applied the colors very convincingly, the only problem i have is that the horizon like is directly along the center of the image, creating a very boring and balanced composition, maybe throw it off with a hill, foreground element, or rock grouping? keep it up, im impressed.

PS: i think i saw you in my class tonight. Did you ask about Eric's work?

I think it looks great man. Agree with Mikko's input about what tends to make it look flat with contrasty and high saturated elements in not only foreground but also the background, other than that I think its dreamy.

daryl> thank you. i think i'll definitely revisit this in the next few days and update it with the atmospheric perspective. Smile

Hey Annis!
This is very nice man. I agree with the above mentioned crits... by way of suggestion, I would say to try and balance out the extremely flat horizon by adding some painted midground formations to break up the horizon.... also it would help sell the depth a bit more.

But hey, this is very nice! Very Happy
