Celvec: I don't know what that is, but it's awesome. I like that rake brush and the orange and blue combo is cool.

it is true that sometimes there could be more discussion concerning the paintings, and the fact of doing paintovers and giving advices is also nice.
i personally rarely have time for myself, since i am preparing my book but things are going to be easier from now on. and i'll probably have more time for doodles.

destinatus, here's a small paintover of your beach sketch.
i did it in order to show you that sometimes, what the brain needs is to be stimulated by real objects and details that are going to be found in the real world. photo refs for that is very interesting. even more interesting, watching things around you with your own eye, and not the eye of somebody else like in the case of a photo.
didn't take any refs for this sketch. just imagined how it would be if your sketch had to become real and believable. it is sometimes the direction you must take in order to make your scenes richer and more attractive.
you'll find in there my personal creative habits. i too am fighting in order to discover how to balance style and realism in a smart way.

Sparth: WOW O__O I can die happy now hehe. Your right, I think that if I would've imagined being at a real beach I would see more than just: water, sand, hills. I will have to drag myself out of the house more often to notice the little details of the world around me and burn them into my brain. I think the textures help out the picture a lot as well (the water, grass, trees) I am just getting into using brushes other than the hard round. Thank you very much for the paintover.

that's the way to go. think about what your painting would look like if this was was located in the real world. it's a process that must become an automatism, and it will become that way if you improve your analysis, like you have just said above.

it is not really a question of texturing, but rather a question of obtaining the right brushes for the right use or the right area.
it took me years, with friends, in order to create specific brushes, wether they'd be based on template photos or complex dual textured brushes. there's more than one approach.

you're more than welcome Very Happy

amazing work guys. just amazing!

kill me NOW! this is supposed to be a 'kiddy' painting for class. but my mind keeps pushing it to realism, so now its' caught in the middle, far from what i wanted it to be!
still ahve to add my little sailors and pirates int here, but you get the idea.

Wow! Great work good words.

Getting more comfortable with working after better artists. I dug the colors in the wave of the Aivazovsky painting.
