GREATT work all!
starting a new project i assigned myself; a mattepainting.
its somewhat the idea of a planet very similar to earth, but the civilization is underground. But I don't want to s how it too much, and just basically want to practice landscape mattepainting.
so, some thumbs i did. b/w, and then made a new layer, set it to color, and just threw osme color on.
any favorites? these are quick and dirty 10 minute thumbs, and i got lazy on the last one (bottom right) haha.

annis, number 2 is the one to go with, no doubt. The idea of putting a underground-civilization on a planet with harsh atmosphere has been done several times (see Riddick movie), but having such a nice setting like you did it is a good bonus. Reminds me of some of the worlds in the Dan Simmons novels and the movie The Time Machine with Guy Pearce. Also, it has the best color scheme of all four.
Go for it, I'm looking forward to see this full-size. |

mr. blonde> freakin' amazing!! are there some base photos in there? nice mergence of lighting.
matthew> thanks! nice work yourself. likin it
jabo> thank you. i appreicate you taking the time to type it out. i chose the one you suggested,a nd tried to veer off it a tad bit to see how it goes.
another 20-25 min color study; narrowed down to this thumb. any suggestions? i forgot to put in the highlights for the little ships flying over the openings in the earth.
***UPDATE***
detailing...maybe i should make a thread of this in teh WIP section :-/

Not sure how well THIS is received here, but I'm doing a lot of speedpaints, using the ZbornToy on top. It's a very interesting process of painting, because you practically model with luminance, while you can still color anyway you like.
Anyway, this one took about 10min to paint, 2min to setup and 6 seconds to render out.
It's really difficult to classify it, maybe it even asks for its own category, but it really is still painting, full-on! And a blast!
If you don't stop me, I will make a whole lot more of those, maybe even some where I spend a bit more time on, but it's so very interesting and different to paint this way. It's somehow a different type of intuition. You should try it sometime!

One more...but I'll leave it at that for now. Otherwise it gets a little too silly. I have to start some real painting again, but it still is fun. This one was literally just some scribbling, roughly 10 minutes. Then about 10 more minutes playing around with the plug-in in after effects and voila!
All the fine structures just happen because of the brush I've used in PS. It's kinda fascinating, I thought, but I'm also kinda used to it already now. Just fun.
And I'm gonna sleep now. OH, I only looked briefly over the previous posts and just now looked at them for real.... OMG. Mr.Blonde(how on earth did you make those rocks so playfully, yet beautifully realistic!?), m@ (hey, you're here, huh?! Awesome) and everyone: Holy hell!!!
