The camera is a Sony DSC-F707. I am very happy with it. Considering the cost, I had better be happy with it.

High Rez BIG files

kinda screen rez

left to right,

1 This is "upcountry" It is a little cooler and looks a lot like northern California.

2 this is from my deck looking toward the volcano

3 this is also upcountry, but a little away from the wetter side, you can see the grass is not quite as happy as #1

4 the backside of the volcano, in the rain shadow. It is normally quite dry and dead, but this year has seen a lot of rain coming up from the tropics. It is not normally this green.

5 my backyard, bananas, "apple" or Brazillian to be exact. They are amazing creatures.

6 My house had been neglected for several years, and the yard and gardens overgrown. This is a serious thing in a place where you can see things growing. The undergrowth was like this everywhere. It is hard work clearing it all. I have a good chainsaw and weed whacker, but in place of the nylon string I have mounted a circular saw blade. A backhoe would be very useful.

It's bizarre for me to look at a picture and see more green than brown, coming from New Mexico.

Lush.

Craig, I don't know if you're aware of this or not, but there seems to have been a murder!

It is difficult to spot, but in your final image I can make out what looks to be a human body in the grass! I think you should call the authorities immediately. I expect to be credited as the one that cracked the case.

Do the majestic landscapes and lush tropical veriety of vegitation ever fade into the routine, or does every view of from your porch make you think "I live in paradise." on a daily basis?

Maui looks fantastic. And although I envy your yard, I do not envy the yard work.

Wow...
Was it a dream come true moving there?
Looking at these pictures I'd certainly be a happy puppy living there.
Or is there.. like.. major things that you miss on maui?

The pictures are certainly impressive. It would be nice to see some more day to day life shots.

That's the camera I'm thinking of getting whenever I sell my old Olympus. Nice shots... beautiful place.

Masta Flat on Maui? *general consternation among the women folk...*

Awetopsy- Oahu is like LA in the Pacific, go to the north shore. If it were not for Honolulu, I thing the Pali area would be the most beautiful in all the islands.

Impaler- I had the same reaction coming from LA. But, it rains about 100 inches where I am, but mostly at night from 4 AM to 8 AM. No rain, so rainb... sorry.

Shamhead- yes that was half the reason for this post- the camera is spectacular. The memory capacity and USB work really well. It has infrared as well, but it has been disabled for so strange reason.

Gimbal- I thought taking it for granted would be inevitable, but it really has not happened. I appreciate it more and more.

Pixelsoldier- I half expected to find human remains somewhere in the cleanup, but so far all I found is a cat skeleton. I make my cat behave by waving the jawbone about.

Lunatique- There are more really good looking surf nazis here than girls. Ah well.

Akolyte- me too. I did not expect to get into them as I have. My machete is very sharp.

edraket- I do miss a wide variety of good restaurants. I get back to the mainland enough to go to museums and such. Most of the people I knew at Square were shocked to learn that I was going to live here. Most could not wait to get back to civilization. The internet helps a lot to not feel isolated.

I think I will take some snapshots of what things look like more on average.

Jez- Waiting a bit might be a good idea. I think the 5 megapixel stands up to 35mm, if that is all you need.

Wow - that is some beautiful country; I can almost smell the earth just looking at your photos.

Get rid of that gas powered thing and get a swing blade!

Wow. Real nice 'paysages'. I hope you like it there Craig, it sure looks nice. (Strange though, I had figured you were going for a place closer to the beach).

This seems like a pretty beautiful photograph to me.

But I guess it doesn't compare to those very deep and compelling images of your townhouse in New Jersey, eh Shizo? :P

No, i didnt say they were.
I said someone like spooge (who sees colors and hues by their hex numbers, measures things by pixels) would have some amazing photos to look at :0

You ever tried shooting landscape shots, shizobum? I've been studying photography since I was in kindergarten, back when I had an old 110 crapass, and it's still a challenge for me.

Besides. Great illustrators don't always make great photographers, just like great photographers don't always make great illustrators. I've found that you have to see things slightly differently with photography. You don't have the ability to will things in and out of the scene with photography (Photoshop being an exception), and lighting is almost entirely static.

Craig Mullins isn't Ansel fucking Adams, but the shots are aesthetically solid.

It's unfair to require Craig to show his artistic knowledge/experience when he's just having fun and relaxing with some snapshots. There are two modes most photographers get into:

1)I'm a photographer, and I'm going to take some good pictures

2)I'm just taking snapshots for fun, showing the land/people/streets/interior to my friends and family. I'm not going to worry about aesthetic values when I do this.

Kinda obvious Craig was in mode 2 when he took those shots.

If you keep this up, he might never post again, and that would suck.

Nice photos, Spooge.

I miss Hawaii. Must be something else having such a beautiful environment to live in.

I see that you're having fun with PS7, judging by some of the brushwork.

Testing your matte skills on the kids here, eh? Looks like you passed the test.

Love them, post more.

Edit: damn my grammar sucks. :P
