I usually try to avoid current events but things around the world have really been heating up recently (no pun intended)...I remember a while back hearing about India testing nuclear weapons and trying to do it in secret and "forensic seismology" stations around the world picked up traces of nuclear-type detonation vibrations coming from that region. Wouldn't it be funny (not really) if India and Pakistan decided to nuke eachother for the fun of it? And then the rest of the world decided to join in? I'm probably just exagerating things, but that's just my defensive pessimisim working overtime.
What do you guys think about this "crisis in the middle east/asia" thing? Is this just following the normal pattern of humanity starting wars and killing eachother every few decades or constantly depending on the region you live in?
Don't get me started on biological warfare either...sooner or later smallpox is going to show up somewhere...and it's not going to be pretty at all. Pretty scary stuff if you ask me. |

I'm honestly genuinely scared. With almost every country in the world calling for their residents to evacuate the area, it seems to be a rather large case for concern, in my opinion.
I also just say The Sum of All Fears, which freaked me out even further. Good movie, though. |

Bush is considering re-opening Nevada test sites. He's already commissioned some task force or whatever to see how long it would take to prep the sites and have them ready for testing.
Our nine-year nuclear testing moratorium is close to it's end, and there's very little to keep us from resuming testing.
Russian nuclear weapons are in a terrible state, and disarmament seems a distant choice. Accidental lauch is getting closer and closer.
North Korea is supposedly selling ballistic missiles to Iraq; their START II missiles are a constant threat to the United States. If we push them too far, or support South Korea too much, blam-o!
Israel has nuclear weapons. |

Impaler: Hasn't Bush and Putin been talking about getting rid of some of their nuclear weapons? Where did you hear about Bush wanting to start up nuclear testing again? If it is true, that's damn two-sided don't you think? The public believes the "nuclear issue" is allright because the media portrays Bush and Putin becoming good friends and making agreements and stuff. |

Bush and Putin have both vowed to disarm two-thirds of their nuclear arsenals, as part of the NPT (non-proliferation treaty) of 1967, which calls for total disarmament.
Bush has also ducked out of the ABM treaty to continue testing low-altitude missiles for the national missile defense shield.
I read about Bush looking into testing in The Guardian, or something close to that. I can try and find the article again if you want. |

in my opinion what this treaty really means is YOU disarm, and we keep our stash. if you dont disaarm, well fuck you.
also im also real worried since amrica has meddled with just about every country there is to meddle with, so pretty worrying stuff since i can understand that the countries wont take it anymore. if there is gonna be a war in pakistan and india things are gonna spread for sure. lets just hope their advanced weapons are so advanced that i wont need to go fight, and just get on with my life. also im hoping that they have the common sense to not hunt down my road with nukes just cos they think its funny. tsk tsk tsk. i really dont wana see the next full blown war. |

I think that they might get only one shot. If they send one nuke we would get involved in brutal force. Not because of choosing sides (whoever shot the nuke) but to prevent others to think they can shoot nukes left and right with no consequences. It is like the daddy giving disipline |

break the terrorbalance and we can kiss this world goodbye... there's no way a lot of countries, specifically asian and arabic wouldn't nuke america as soon as america (or someone else) shoots off one of theirs... and that would get messy... I don't trust those people with technology... |

I wouldn't worry about nukes being shot towards us anyway. We got laser targeting systems out there that are to the inch. If a nuke came to us, it wouldn't be from the sky, it would probably be a suitcase or van... |

the whole thing in india and pakistan is just a big fallacy, they wont attack each other. its just the more public realization of a different problem. |

Chris, that isn't true man. Bush is frantically working to get a missile defence system working. The US can't even defend against traditional missile attacks at the moment, let alone nuclear missile attacks. They've been practice-targeting their own missiles throughout this past year and haven't hit one yet. To say that there is some mythical laser in the sky that is accurate within inches isn't very realistic. I don't mean to sound like an ass, but this is just my understanding of the whole missile defence situation.
From Trent Lott:
Myth: the U.S. currently has a missile defense system in place. Fact: Though I wish it were true, it is not. According to a poll, as much as 64 percent of Americans believe the U.S. already has some sort of protection against nuclear attacks in place. Maybe in a Hollywood style world this would be true, but it is not reality. Although we have a limited capability to defend our overseas forces and allies against shorter range missiles, the U.S. does not have any means to defend the American people against ballistic missile attack on American soil. If this many Americans truly believe that America can defend itself against nuclear attack, then they have been dangerously and irresponsibly misled. |

I don't think either country will drop a nuke because they are wise to the fact that it will effect the entire planet.
Personally, I think wars should be faught like they were in the middle ages, you know with swords and shit. It's to easy to shoot someone or blow something up. People are just to damn lazy to get off their asses and get into the mix. |
