My first attempt to color a picture in photoshop from a sketch I have made, so bare with me . This guy is inspired by the Silent Hill games (recently saw the movie as well). I usually don't draw scarey looking creatures, so this is a first for me. Tell me what I'm doing wrong and what I should do plz (if anything) because I luv the work on these forums and wish to get better.
Original sketch-
EDIT: No ink outlines. I like it more like this. Can someone tell me how to scan in a pencil drawing and make the lines into another layer without the background so I can color it in but still see the lines.

Put the line work on a layer above your paint layer, adjust the levels and contrast settings so that you get rid of as much noise as you want to and set the layer mode to multiply. |

im too noobish, so bare with me. First off, once I've scanned the drawing in to begin with, how do I seperate the pencil drawing from the white background? (or did you just explain that and I didn't understand )
Heres an update to the picture tho, I'll be adding a background and stuff later.

If you set the layer to multiply when it's on top, you won't have to seperate them. Layer mode multiply does what it says- multiplies the colors on top with those below it- white will have no impact on layers below, while the darker line work (or any imprefections on the paper) will show up.
You may end up with a slight paper texture, but thats ok- you'll have enough to start working with. Eventually, you can combine the two layers and paint out what you don't want when the piece is far enough along. |
