I've been screwin around in maya lately to try and shake of the rust (though I didn't have much knowledge to rust in the first place, but anyway).

The problem is I decided that to play with reflections, I would duplicate my entire object several times and scatter it, and seemingly as a result, the scene will no longer load. I had a number of settings ramped up, and I believe that the scenes failure to load is most likely a memory issue (there was some excessive and careless beveling at one point) and I was wondering if there is any sort of safe mode to load a scene and eliminate the aspects which are hogging memory?

I wouldn't say that the scene is overly high poly, so I don't know exactly why this is happeneing, but anyway, if there is anything yall can think of, it'd be a big help.

Thanks.

I dont have Maya.

But...

I know Lightwave does not have a "safe mode".

You might try loading it into another program that can load a Maya file. Then maybe do some simple edits, save it out then try and load it back into Maya.

In Lightwave there are Object files and Scene files ( a collection of objects). If thats how Maya works it might be faster to just recreate the scene. It always goes faster the second time Smile

If the Objects are in the scene then you should be saving with new filename /versions. Saved me a few times. One false move in LW and you can rename all surfaces, uhg. I was very happy to have the older version, maybe 30 minutes old. I end up with 30-50 files then periodically delete the very old ones.

Is it an MA or an MB? You can load an MA in a text editor and see if anything looks obviously corrupted.

Naw, it's saved as mb, and I wouldn't be able to recognize whether it was corrupted or not anyway.

Tzan, usually, I would save multiple steps, but I opened maya up today with the intent of screwin around a bit to see if I remembered how to navigate the menus. As a result I'm afraid the thing is lost. Doesn't matter I guess, just playing anyway.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't mean to impose, but would anyone with a powerful workstation be willing to open the file for me, delete the extra couple of satallites (and maybe save it in wireframe mode) and send it back?

I've only got a gig of RAM, but I'll give it a try if you want. Throw it my way. My box at the studio has two gigs, and I could try it there on monday if it doesn't work here.

Oh, and which version of Maya are you running? I don't want to send you a Maya 7 file if you're on 6 Smile

Thanks Balistic, I've sent it to your profile email. I'm using maya 6.5, feel free to play with the scene if you get it going.
