ok, this one has been bugging me for weeks. I started practicing my heads a month or so ago when i dug up the Ron Lemen tutorial, as my character drawing skills back then were nil. things have been progressing nicely since, but I've reached somewhat of an impass. Ive been looking at a lot of the work on ca.org, and dug around for a few tutorials, asked my teachers, but its not really helping.
so, i dont suppose any of you could give me some advice, any at all, female head proportions, guidelines, anything, cos im kinda stuck. some of my sketches turn out ok, a lot of them dont. ill post some of the sketches soon as possible. _________________ Earth under attack by paper mache aliens; world leaders plead - 'Save us! I have the same problem, I guess it comes down to drawing a pretty female head - you need to construct and draw it perfectly. I mean, with old dudes you can cover bad drawing by facial hair and wrinkles etc. saying "yeah he's old and distorted" a pretty girl must be done perfectly.. |

yeah, i have no problem with mens heads, so much simpler and straightforward, but women are all curvy and complicated :-/, its hard to be consistent, especially when trying to get it at the first attempt. _________________ Earth under attack by paper mache aliens; world leaders plead - 'Save us! i used to have that problem
the thing is that with men, you can get away with drawing some extra lines. women are smooth, and elegant. their faces aren't ragged like most men. You just need to smooth the features out with limited a amount of pencil 'strokes'.
And the shading has to be a bit more accurate and, well, smooth. Obvious lines, in the beginning, seem to show manly features. But it will come out in the end.
Example;
the cheekbones on males, most of the time, are more squared. With women, they're more rounded. You can also give the likeness of a female by giving noticeable eyelashes, and bigger eyes then men. Their lips are more defined.
That'sabout all I can offer  _________________ http://www.annisnaeem.blogspot.com/ |

Ha, that's funny. I can draw women but suck at drawing men. Maybe it's a gender-related thing - people can draw their own gender better. We are more accustomed to the shape, I suppose.
Or maybe not. I'm just thinking aloud. Except not. _________________ DA Gallery| LiveJournal

Welll..... nevermind then. Thanks for squashing my spur-of-the-moment theory that had absolutely nothing backing it up, Max. Psh.
