I spent many many hours on this one, and though I am happy with how it turned out, I know there are improvements to be made... I just don't think I'm advanced enough to see them objectively... I do see great improvement over the last six months though. ![Rolling Eyes](images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif) |

I like the idea but still needs some work...
Not sure where you were at before but looks like your gettin pretty good.
I look at the wings, feet and rock and they look great, good details.. I like the sky too, but...
When you look at the character herself she looks verrry muddy. I think you should practice working on some skintones and also when the lineart shows through on one part of the image and not the other [in this case] it looks unfinished...
were you using a reference? _________________ -jonny

Thank you Jonny! I have a long way to go and a lot to learn... As far as the skin goes, I tend to smudge a lot, then airbrush a hint of other colors, and then smudge a lot more. I need to learn how to better create skin. Thank you! |

Hi, you seem to have the right attitude so you'll probably learn fast!
Some random thoughts...
Skin and skintones are highly affected by the lighting condition of the surroundings. Try to determine what kind of light you are dealing with at first (direction, intensity, color, distance etc) and then try to find out how your subject will be affected by that light. Look at pictures that have different lighting conditions, or better yet, when you're outside (or inside), take as a habit to look how things are lit, and ask yourself how come, try to come up with logical explanations. Identify where the light, mid and darkest values go on people and objects that you see, and why they do that.
Keep it up! |

I do have a real problem with light... I've been meaning to take a class on the basics of illustration, I think the whole practice of shading cylinders and spheres would probably give me better insight... thank you also MISC.! |
