Someone who is against abortion but does not want to outlaw body-armour piercing bullets should be executed on sight anyway...

I can't say that I'm well acquianted with American politics, but republicans scare me. They use the phrase "our constitutional right to bear arms" more often than I use prepositions. It seems Americans don't have a constitutional right not to get shot to death by some crazy motherfucker with 12 legal guns.
The NRA is too big a force and there are too many republicans to change anything. Until they get stricter gun laws, it's gonna be a shooting-incident festival. But hey, they're probably gonna ban computer games and thus single handedly solve all the violence in America. Pisses me off.

"Guns don't kill people, they just make it easier..."

*Sigh* This is a thread I could rip some people up on...but for now I'll just skim the surface on a few topics.

Fact. Most handguns used in crimes AREN'T registered firearms. That little 5 day waiting period is a background check. What criminal wants to wait 5 days to have his file brought up and then be denied access to the weapon? They have other means of getting their grubby lil' paws on them. Granted...fully auto AK's and the like have no reason to be in the hands of civilians (except gun collectors..in which case the firing pin or other necessary part has been removed) I'm in no way a gun fanatic, but I'd much rather have access to my own firearm if my house was burglarized instead of defending myself with a butterknife.

Secondly..An unborn baby can't dodge a pair of forceps and suction tubes like a soldier can with body-piercing ammo! Hehehehehe. Just playing around, but the abortion issue IS one that I'm very adamant about and ready to rumble with anyone over...For now..sleep calls!

The rantings and ravings of an American with an understanding of his Socio-Political climate.

Oh, I don't know, I think a few less guns is a good thing. Not just because "people kill people", but because its a bit kinder to the wildlife, and the environment in general.

Im not at all against people having handguns. I mean, criminals will allways have handguns regardless of the laws about them, because a "criminal" is the defenition of someone who breaks the law Every 12yeardold can figure that out.

But it strikes me as rather hypocrite to take away the right of a woman to judge over her own body, in the name of preserving life or something, and at the same moment making it legal to sell ammunition that you cannot protect your law enforcement officers against. Am i the only one who sees the contradiction in this?

I also recall Bush Jr saying he wants to "bring the US armed forces back to strength" or something very scary like that. Last time i checked the US was more or less a world power with the latest high-tech, but i guess Thermonuclear missiles, Stealth fighters and GPS-guided infantry shooting guided 20mm ammo isn't "strong" enough for Mr. Bush...

I can see the contradiction, Spitfire. Bush Jr is *extremely* right wing, and unfortunately, conservative politicians traditionally aren't very sympathetic to the rights of women. Except if we're at home cooking, cleaning, being smilingly dutiful to our husbands, with our 2.5 children hanging off our skirts. (Yep, by golly, all us uppity type women are totally ruining 'family' life in the 'free' world. Disgraceful). I'm not making light of the pro choice/pro life debate, by the way. I'm just pocking fun at politicians that would dearly love to push women out of the public arena.

With respect to guns and military strength. Well, I see Bush Jr's attitude on that issue as more about money than people's constitutional rights or protecting police. The whole weapons industry is a gigantic money spinner and if there is one thing a right wing politician respects-its making money .

Yeah. Money's what makes the world go round.

Oh well, maybe if Bush Jr fucks up america bad enough, they'll come to their senses and elect someone more suitable to run a huge country like the US. Or we can be "saved" (ahem) and theyll pick Gore. Yay. :|

And people wonder why only such a small percentage of citizens bother voting in America...
If you ask me, America should elect an african american woman as president, just to shake things up a little. I'd take great pleasure in watching conservative heads exploding left and right.

How can anyone vote for Al Gore? I can handle a lying president, I can handle a horny president, but why the hell would you want a stupid president? He says he's an enviromentalist, then he has 4 upperclass american kids. Can you say hypocrite.

The American elections get as much covergae over here (UK) as the British ones!

Are the Democrats like the Liberals(UK) and the Republicans like the Tories(UK Conservative)?

I have to admit, I don't really know what the difference between Democrat and Repuplican is. (shady deals vs fundamentalism?).

Yeah, Ceenda, I think they're sort of roughly equivalent. In Oz we have Labour and the Liberal/National coalition. Trouble is, though, in the last 20-30 years the policy base of the major parties in english speaking countries has been shifting slowly, but surely to the right. So when we go to the polls, our choices now are really between centre right, far right and extreme right. Gack.

Oh, yeah, HERRRR!!!!! She's a xenophobic little bottom feeder, long on ambition and spite, short on mental equipment. Jeez, she even looks like something that would eat its young. The only good thing about her and her party was watching it self-destruct.
