I realized I hadn't posted about this here yet, so I thought I'd let you in on what happened over the weekend. Basically I was taken to the emergency room Saturday night to discover I had acute appendicitis. Sunday morning they operated on me and removed the poor little useless organ. I had a REALLY bad hospital experience... but I won't go into all the details here. I'm at home in bed now, and feeling a bit better. Its still difficult to move, but the pain killers have been good to me.
The fun part is that I have a laptop hooked up in my bed so I don't get too bored, hehe.
To give you an idea of how bored I got, I got this random image script set up for my personal icons... then I sat around making tons of avatars.
clicky, clicky!
I refresh forever and ever. Muhahaha!
And ummm... because I'm still in bed and still bored... here's another little thing to entertain you with.
I baked some tasty wookie cookies... mmmm.... well... actually Jah did most of the work while I directed. Muhahaha... having staples in my belly isn't so bad...
We bought a star wars cookbook to give to one of his friends, and tried out a recipe. They are really tasty. And since EP2 just came out, I thought I would share a recipe
****
2 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs (or egg substitute if you're veggie)
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup milk chocolate chips
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
____________________________________________
1. Preheat the oven to 375F.
2. Put the flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Stir with a wooden spoon until well mixed. Set aside.
3. Put the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in another mixing bowl. Using the electric mixer set on high speed, beat together until well blended and creamy, about 3 minutes. (you can do this with a wooden spoon but it will take longer.) Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract. Add the flour mixture and stir with the wooden spoon until blended. Stir in the chocolate chips.
4. Scoop up a rounded tablespoonful of the dough and drop onto a baking sheet. Repeat until you have used up all the dough. Be sure to leave about 1 inch between the cookies because they will spread as they bake.
5. Using pot holders, put the baking sheets in the oven. Bake until golden brown, about 10 minutes.
6. Remove baking sheets from the oven. Lift the cookies from the baking sheets with a spatula, and place on cooling racks. Let cool completely.
Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
****
Some other recipes the book includes:
Yoda Soda
Dark Side Salsa
Jabba Jiggle
Han-Burgers
Boba Fett-uccine
Sandtrooper Sandies
Link to get it from Amazon.
I just think its the funniest thing ever.... the pictures kick ass

Oh yeah... and here's something funny that happened when I "came to":
... when I came out of surgery I was pretty much braindead for the next several hours. I would fall sleep in mid-sentence or doze off while someone was talking to me.
Jah and my mom had been sitting on either side of my bed when I fell asleep. I opened my eyes a little and saw someone else was in the room.
My mom said, "Hey Beth. Look who's here. You know who that is?"
And you know what I said...?
"..... Homer....."
"Homer? Umm... Beth? You see who came to visit you?"
I opened my eyes and said, "..... Homer...... Homer Simpson is here."
I vaguely remember them busting out laughing and teasing me for the next 15 minutes because I was talking to "Homer Simpson".
It was actually my little brother |

Awe - Yeah.... tons of people call me Katherine, considering its my formal first name and all. Lots of people call me Beth too though. Either or
And yeah... appendicitis sucks. Not as much as a pelvic exam from a stressed out doctor though. Errrrg. |

No... you definitely don't want to know, and I wish I didn't. *grumbles*
Well, my bf whipped up the script for me... I am sure he wouldn't mind sharing. This is the link to it:
http://div.dyndns.org/avatars/randimg.php
Not sure if you can view the code that way though... I'm no programmer |

Oh ok.... here we go
<?php
srand( time() );
$files = array();
if ($dir = @opendir(".")) {
while (($file = readdir($dir)) !== false) {
if ( eregi( '.(jpg|gif)$', $file ) ) {
$files[] = $file;
}
}
closedir($dir);
}
$file = $files[rand() % sizeof( $files )];
#$file = "avatar37.jpg";
if ( eregi( '.jpg$', $file ) ) {
header( "Content-Type: image/jpeg" );
} else {
header( "Content-Type: image/gif" );
}
header( "Content-Length: " . filesize( $file ) );
readfile( $file );

Hey, hope your scar heals fast and seamless. Sorry to hear that the hospital didn't treat our princess right.
Are you allowed to have Wookie cookies during recovery? You bad girl.
Whenever I get weird cramps, I worry that I might have appendicitis. It hasn't happened yet though. *cross fingers*
Did you keep it in a jar? You can show it to people when they visit.
When my little sister had her extra pinky removed, we kept it in a jar. (She had an extra pinky on one of her hands.) |

Luna - Nope... I had the laser surgery done, so that little appendix was zapped and fried.
And yes, I can have wookie cookies. *grin*
From what I know about appendicitis, it starts as a general stomach ache and over the period of a few hours/days it starts to focus in one are - your lower right abdomen. You can push down in that area and it will hurt really bad. I think you'll know if it happens |

lol. Hey Jezebel, Last week I made Skywalker Smoothies.
I recommend not using orange juice, but that is all I had. My wife and I bought some ingredients to make Wookie Cookies sometime last year but the chocolate chips always 'disapeared' before we could make the cookies.
Hope you fully recover soon. |

I had my appendix out about 5 years ago - painful experience. Actually, mine was about to burst if I didn't have it removed. At first the doctors just thought I had some kind of stomach bug and kept sending me home. A day or two longer, and the thing would have burst filling my body with poison (seriously). Anyway, I feel for ya Jez.. |

Giant Hamster- Hehe. My younger half sister(same dad, different mom) was born with an extra pinky on one of her hands (I can't remember right or left). When she was still just a lil' thing, they surgically removed it. We kept it in a jar, and it just kinda...floats in this liquid. It's fun to look at. I haven't seen my younger sis since 95' so I can't remember if there's a scar on her hand or not. |

6 fingers! If my parents had told me that i was born with 6 fingers and that they asked the doctors to chop one off, i would explode into an unfathomable fit of rage. Was it a functional finger?
jez: isn't it nice now that it's over with, though? i used to (and still kind of do) have a slight fear of getting appendicitis. no more of that for you those images are cute, btw |

Nah, it was completely useless. We never observed her using it for anything. What's she gonna do, pick things up between her two pinkies? We can't even pick anything up between our ring finger and pinky. |

Thank you so much for the well wishes everyone... I appreciate it
A little update...
I was supposed to have my follow-up appointment today to get my staples checked out, cleaned, etc. I got in and they asked for money up front. I told them I had never received a bill and they said the surgery would be $3100 (this isn't including the hospital bill) and that I needed to pay a portion of that now. I'm completely broke so I told them I didn't have the money... SOOOO.... they wouldn't see me. *grumbles* They told me to come back when I had some moolah. Meh. So I can't get in to be checked for at least another 5 days. Hopefully my belly doesn't explode in the meantime |
