Yeah. Tomorrow I have to go to military service for 6 months. Argh, I tell you I would like to skip that but it's a law in my country. It isn't even possible to fake death dammit. For me that means 6 months without anything. Crawling around in mud and snow and keeping a strict watch at a random tree in the middle of the forest for no reason at all. Okay,...maybe it won't be THAT bad...I'll be at the ABC (Atomic, Biologic, Chemic) Weapons commando. So, maybe it will even be abit interesting...going around with a Geiger counter and stuff like that.
As far as I know I will be able to go home at the weekends. At least after the basic training which last for 6 to 9 weeks or something. Remember that first part of Full Metal Jacket?
Gonna be a crativity killer. Well, I'm optimistic. At least I got to shoot some weapons, always wanted to try that
See you guys! |

That sucks. Look at the bright side though, it's only 6 months now for you. Been 8 months until not too long ago. I don't know how much they gonna whet you, but I wish you good luck. The ABC is in Korneuburg, right? I'm not sure but I think that is where they have the really good kitchen with different food to choose and stuff. Could be wrong though. Just be careful with the rifle and cautious of any morons playing with the safety when theres real ammo in it. But I guess you've heard of the accidents in the news yourself |

good luck, it doesn't sound so bad, you get to spend time checking out that sweet austrian landscape and live out side in the forest. Better than London...

Yeah .. getting enlisted sucks .... but at least its 6 months...
i was in the army for 2 years ... only going home on public holidays and weekends .. and sometmes when ive been bad, i dont even get to go home weekends.. hahahahaha .. fuckers those army people are.
and Ranath's statement holds truth ... my ex left cos i was unavailable.
but its all over now ...
cant say those two years flew tho .. cos even now, i could still feel the drag i went to. |

You can always kill your own team. Sure such events generally leave you with a sharp stinging sensation in your chest, particularly from the hot bullets ripping through your body as you make your last stand, but it all works out in the end. People love a good show.

good luck max!
I choose the military path when i was 23 to try it out. it was a voluntary desicion, so being a law in your country must be a real pain in the ass for a promissing artist as you. the experience, on the other hand, could be pretty valuable asset for you in the futur.
But dont worry, i beleive your pens&papers will help you going throught this more than a bullet will ever do. |

The thing I really hate about the military (can only speak about the austrian one here of course) is that its practically of no use. You get to do nothing enough to justify doing it at all. They don't get you in a better shape, they don't convert you into a mean killing machine or anything. Most "valuable" lessons probably revolve around how to take second-long naps without getting caught, or how to ignore idiots yelling at you. I have been lucky enough to get into the kitchen and dodge most shitty excersizes. The most important thing to remember about it all is to not take it seriously. Always keep in mind that they can't really do anything to you. Sadly I couldn't follow my own advice here and got quite nervous and depressed in my time. Mostly because I can't stand being not free.
But I guess I'm just a pussy boy. At least I feel weird complaining like that in presence of someone who did 2 years of army in Singapore. Personally I just think that the phrase "it'll be a valuable experience for you" is getting really old and way overused. |

Haha! I can see the connection!!!
j/k man, i believe your experience in the military wasn't a pleasant one.
I remember a few years ago someone on the forums got to drive a Russian BTR when he was in the army (he posted a pic). I think it was in Finland. And i remember him complaining a lot about the noisy, smelly, cheap POS that the BTR was |

6 months? Man I gotta do it for 2 years and I'm only 1 month in. Heh, take care and try to have fun, just think positive yeah
and heh gLitterbug, the military is great for crushing any anti-establishment sentiments anyone could possibly have, especially here... _________________ Derelict Studios|Godwin's Space |

Am I the only one frightened by all this mandatory military service in Europe?
I'm just saying, they ACT all friendly with their culture and baguettes and babes. Celebrate Europe! they say, with a cordial smile and open arms. They seem so.. non-threatening with their (frankly) hilarious accents and easy-going lifestyle. They work their way into our inner circle of friendship, fattening us with German beer, Swiss chocolate, Italian Lasagna... waiting for us to get complacent (more so, anyway).
Then, BAM! Conquest! I'm just saying, is all. _________________ QED, sort of. |

I, as a European citizen, would ask you to remove this reply Impaler. If you do not do that within 24 hours I probably have to take action. |

Back again! Finally. As you see I can go home at the weekends which is great.
Military service is not fun tho. Not at all. I could go into details but you might know all that stuff anyway. I hope it will be over soon. Cleaning this stupid Stg77 Weapon makes me sick. The system is just damn weird. Anyways. In some weeks I'll get used to it. It's just a whole different way of life for me at the moment. Several people in my group had to go to the Military Hospital by now because of overworking and injuries etc. People here are just rude. The way it has to be, I know. Stuff like going around with a 40kg backpack can't be good for your body. I'm really not a hypochondriac person and I have nothing against physical strain however I have never been so exhausted before. It's damn stressful. Can't be good. lol- Anyway.
Thanks again for your support guys. In some weeks it'll get less intense and as some of you said, 6 months is nothing compared to 2 years - damn. I feel for you guys!! I can't take any pics or make videos because it's not allowed. However there is nothing to see anyway. It's eighter damn boring or extremely stressful. I'll take some time until everything gets "normal". Altogether it's an interesting experience but nothing you would seriously miss in your life. LOL
I'll try to chil out now and watch a nice movie. Maybe I'll even draw something altough I was kind of pushed out of the "art world."
It feels so good to be back!!! |

In France it has vanished, and that's better like that.
I wish you good luck for the remaining time. _________________ Pierrick l'Illustrateur des bois.

If Germany has similar policy to that as we have in Finland, you either do your service as a conscientous objector, you work like 2 years in old-folks home or something... it's like non-military service for those who just don't want to get involved to weapons. If you don't do that (like you want to resist the system) you end up into prison. Amnesty international isn't exactly happy with that.
But yeah, I had call ups not too long ago, I made it to military police, hope it's ok.. takes 9-12 months.
oh and when we had call ups, if you don't show up the day you're supposed to, cops actually find you and bring you in by force etc. |
