this may not help at all but i'm posting it anyway

i love jazz in all its glory.. there's a guy by the name of DJ Mark Farina who spins acid jazz, much like the traditional stuff, but it's acid.. electronic. he combines hip hop, jazz and a little bit of trance.. check him out at http://www.synergize.com/markfarina.htm

So first of all I am looking for information
about some famous jazz song having to do with
a bird or something like that, but I can't
think of the name.

Also I am looking for any really good jazz
resources on the net. Sites with forums,
tablature, biographies etc.

I haven't been able to find much so let me
know if you know anything.

thanks...

maybe weather bird , bird song ?
try www.redhotjazz.com , their search engine is bound to throw up something.
try www.harmony-central.com for some tablature/jazz theory links.

Acid jazz is most enjoyable , I especially like some DJ Krush stuff ( not the very hip hoppy stuff ) and guys like filla brazillia are just mind blowing.

is it an instrumental or a vocal jazz tune?

I just know this one's lyrics with a bird (its really very old and can be heard performed vocally on jewel kilcher's album "spirit" as hidden track:

There's a little bird somebody sent,
down to the earth to live on the wind,
blowing on the wind, and she sleeps on the wind,
this little bird somebody sent,
light and fragile and feathered sky blue,
thin and graceful, sun shining through,
she flies so high in the sky,
way out of reach of human hands,
light and fragile and feathered sky blue,
thin and graceful, sun shining through,
she flies so high in the sky,
way out of reach of human hands,
light and fragile and feathered she's sky blue,
thin and graceful, sun shining through,
and the only time that she touches ground,
is when that little bird dies.

an Intrumental option would be:

birdland - Jaco "God" Pastorious w/ Weather Report

--

I really love jazz too, I will dig up some links for you and post them here..

Here's another question having to do with
bird or a bird.

In the movie 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' the
two main, male characters are supposed to
be big jazz fans. The one guy has named his
sail boat 'bird' in reference to what they
see as THE jazz god. Who or what are they
referring to? ANyone know?

some other jazz and bird things:

Sidney Bechett, one of the greats of new-orleans-jazz recorded an album 1943 called "The bluebird sessions"

Charlie Parker (Bebop) made an album 1948 called "Bird/the savoy recordings" I guess the boat could have been named after that.

Another Charlie Parker album is called "bird lives" (1947) he uses a lot of "bird" in his titles for example the "yardbird suite"

Then there was an album of Art Blakely (Hard Bop) recorded 1954 called "a night at birdland"

Then there is this jazz musican (early funk, later fusion) called Donald Byrd...

The boat in " talented Mr Ripley " is named after Charlie _ bird _ Parker , the great trumpet player.

beautiful reconstruction of that era in the movie.

Talking of "Parkers":

Yesterday was the Jazzfest Wiesen a big 3-day jazz festival here in austria and they had

MACEO PARKER
& Roots Revisited feat. Candy Dulfer

there. They really blew me away. If you have any chance seeing them perform on stage then do so, it was really incredibly great!
