i was also submiting this work to the cgtalk spectacular, the link below brings you to the step by step i have gone through

this piece was definitly too complex/detailed for me to handle as regard of ligthning surface reflections and rendering plus i kinda srcew things up as for perspective since i wanted my ruins to reflect both huge dimension of structures and depth.
good thing i did not bother to try a 3 points perspective.yet.
But i'm not through with this idea since i got an even crazier idea while doing the initial sketch for this ill.
i just dont know how i'm gonna do an illustration that migth en up to be huge in size like a 10 foot diameter circle ill.?
interesting time ahead for me:)
BTW-Congratulation Max for your first prize! i like your image a lot, it really convey a sense of ruins. |
