Hi guys. I'm doing an attempt in making illustrations of manga/anime/games characters in a belivable way, most inpired by the incredible work of Alex Ross. Of course there's a LONG path I have to walk in before I achieve the look I really want, but we have to start from anywhere!
I did recently an attempt with Mai Shiranui, from the King of Fighters series (that you can see on this forum) , and now I'm trying with Sailor Moon chars.
My inspiration comes from this picture:

I made the sketch by hand, and continued the work on Photoshop:

Any critics and comments are important, mainly for those who like manga/anime. Thanks!

You know, I absolutelly love our personal interpretation of these characters.

If it were me, Id have put asian features in them since theyre supposed to be japanese girls, but since youre not me (you can thank god for that Very Happy ), Id say its really well done

edit: wait... hum....youre brazilian?
Then why on earth am I writing in english? Cool

Os meus parabens, ficou um trabalho impecvel..

Many Thanks, Eliseu. This style I'm trying to develop is just in its begining, many things may change here. I'm puting some japanese traces on the chars, but at the same time, I must to keep them as manga chars. I have to find a mid term here, that just experience will show me. When I do just a japanese girl, she looses what makes her a manga character, you know? But of course I will take this in consideration.
Hey, I'd be glad to be you! I've seen some of your works, and they look great! I hope I can do such nice things in a near future.
Well, we're speaking in english, porque portugus uma das lnguas mais difceis do planeta, e muito mais fcil para seres humanos normais entender ingls!
Um abrao, e obrigado pelo seu comentrio.

One more update. But it seems people disapeared from this forum because of holidays!

your faces are great, and your underlying sketch is fine... but most of the coloring on the rest of them is kinda flat, generic, and your hair needs a lot of work.

Thanks for comment, Ylla. What do you suggest about coloring? Unfortunately, I have no live references for this...

Follow a little update

I'm starting to work on hair.

there are some parts of this where the colors are dead-on. one example being their hands. all four of them. they rock. but then there are places like hotaru's skirt - the highlights on it are just a lighter/less-saturated version of the same hue of blue, for example... and if their white leotards give off a colored sheen, that's probably because there's a non-white lightsource, which the rest of the clothing should reflect. in other words, the drawing looks like you're doing it against a white background.

i'd also recommend you get some photo references for the skin color, skirt fabric and their ankles. chibi-usa's lower ankle, both hotaru's ankles and both hotaru's knees could be improved.

Many thanks for your comments. I problably won't rework the entire figure again, because I've alredy learned enough with it and spend time enough on it too. But I'll keep your words in mind for next works. To be honest, I didn't like the colors very much too, and I'll be more carefull next time.

The thing that's bugging me through out all of the different reiterations that you're making is that Sailor Saturns head is unbelievable big relative to the rest of her body. In fact, same goes for Chibimoon, although there you can get away from it a little, her being younger and all.

Last of all, in the reference sailor saturn has her eye fully open whereas in your picture it looks like she has it half open.

Great idea though, and I love the fact that you're trying to do something Alex Ross does very well. You're doing this really well also, so keep at it and let's see what you come up with.
