Hi everybody. I just entered this comunity, and I'd like to show you a project I'm working on.
I'm trying to do a really convincent portrait of Mai Shiranui. For that, I'm relying on reference pictures, some of Cosplayers, some of original arts, made for KOF flyers and cartridges.
I'd appreciated your feedback in helping me to make this image really believable.
Here are some of my reference pictures.
The first rough sketch
And an update.

her left arm is slightly too long, and the hand is out of proportion, compared to her right hand. _________________ hey check it out itsthatguy.com |

Many thanks sprout. I agree with the hand, and I've already made some changes on it. But I'm not able to see the mistake on arm. Here's a picture comparing proportions for both, the photo and my picture.

He meant the LEFT arm, her left arm.
Your lines are on the right arm
Compare the black wrist wrap in the two images on the left arm and its position compared to the knee. |

Here's a slight update, just for correct some major mistakes, like her LEFT arm (I think I got right this time ). It seems her face deserves more work too. And her hair. If you got more weird things, please let me know.

the hair definatly deserves more work. The face looks slightly too american or european to be the character above, but so far this is a good likeness |

I really wish her elbow was casting a shadow onto her leg. And I agree, her hair needs a lot more detail. And the fold in her flesh at the knee bugs me... like the fold is a little too... foldy. Less of a shadow under it would make it stick out less. _________________ Ylla's Art Gallery

HI guys! My old username, for some unexplained reason stopped working, so I created a new one. I've read all your crits and agree with them, mainly with the painting of hair and the fact that she sohuldn't look like an ocidental girl. But I think since this is one my first attempts of realistic digital painting, it's good enough. Your crits will be very useful for my next works, though. I've made a update version, and crits are still welcome.

awesome coloring, whats the image size that you are usually working on? Im trying to do some speed painting in photoshop w/ a wacom for the first time but about to give up and head back to rendering w/ 3d max. However looking at ur drawing i might give it another try at photoshop. =P |

Many thanks, I feel better seeing that I'm inspiring someone! My image is 4000x6000px with 300dpi. People recommend you use largest canvas as possible, to favor details, specially hair. Don't give up, will achieve your goals, if you persist. |
