So I'm currently attending art school minor in digital animation, and this the progress of a project i'm working on for my Character Development class. I'm actually building a macquette that i'll be adding pictures for later on, i've never actually painted in corel painter before but here are my valiant efforts.

Linework -> PhotoshopCS2
Color -> PainterIX

Be Brutal

[edit]
The first sketch is one of the original concept sketches... over time it changed to resemble more of an emaciated ghoul than the muscular beast from the sketch... the macquette is actually even more emaciated than the color render.
[/edit]

The main issue I see is that the horn should really be more in the foreground than the left arm. I mean, if you were to crouch down like that, your arm would be pretty close to your head, and that horn looks pretty thick, and i would imagine it coming out a bit as well. You can give his arms some bend, or you could draw the horn outside the arm, whatever. Also you might wanna work on the eye some more--right now it is nothing but a slit (unless that is all u wanted).

I like the concept though.

Pretty good, would like to see some more shading around the shoulder muscles as well to make it pop-out a little more, Nice work!

Mega:

the horns technically jut straight down from the jaw, and he has a wide shoulder span...the head in fact is about 1/2 as wide as it is tall, so possibly i could just mute them out to get a better representation of their depth compaired to the shoulder.

and the eye, yea i agree, it is going to be a hollow hole on the macquette, but it doesn't have the sinking feeling... i'm not sure how to go about it... any suggestions would be appreciated

psionic:

I couldn't agree more... i actually was running to the wire on being late for class when i was doing coloring him... so i took a couple shortcuts... hehe, sorry.

All that said... i'll work on it sometime this week, i have a crazy schedule today, but i'll get a couple macquette pictures up this afternoon for sure. i might not get to the painting until tomorrow.

Thanks for the criticism guys... and keep em coming. Smile

Wow that's amazing! I really don't have much of a context to put this in, but I love it! The head, actually, seems a bit strange. The bottom jaw is HUGE and that tongue is CRAZY. The body looks really really amazing though.

Sorry if you already said this, but what is this made out of?

What an awesome little guy!

I must say that I liked him in the original cream variety better though...
