Spline: Thanks!
DangerousLlama:Good one
Grendel Khan: Wow, cool pencil strokes.
Mega Muffin: Much better. Did you get that PM?

This one didn't turn out too great, charcoal.

Yeah, buzz, I got the PM. Thanks so much for the support and feedback! I added the shadows of the glasses, but I'm trying to work more on the face and concentrate on hair later. Here's my latest pic. Tried an angle shot.

Hey, this one took an especially long time for some reason.... And I still don't think I got the angle I was going for.... Anyway, I have spent so much time on it, you wouldn't believe it. At least I think I'm slowly getting better? My new headphones go around the back of my head btw--which is seriously painful after a while. I'm kinda sorry I spent 20 bucks on them...lol anyway, here's the lastest!

Haha, and u know what I just thought of? I seriously change clothes in the pictures so many times, lol! First I think i had on a black t-shirt, then white, then some dark color, and whatever color, and now today I had on a hoodie, lol. Anyway, just thought that was a little humorous. The day will come when I can sit down and do one of these in just a couple hours!!

Hey, where is everyone?? Anyway, I'm still going! So here's the next one. Kinda ghetto, lol. I have to do an SP in traditional media for art calss, so
I may not have another one for a while.

I wonder if I should keep focusing on drawing from life, improving my skills and all, or if I should be starting to try and make pretty pictures. I usually try to pay attention to things like composition and contrast, but I haven't really drawn any illustrations or anything that would be of any use to anyone. Any advice? Unless otherwise suggested, I think I'll just keep practicing.

Anyway, here it is!

Good portraits, everyone. I did this one in a speed-drawing exercise in college (I'm the one on the ground). Inspired by a Simpson's episode.

I painted over that one two (of mine) above this in color. It took a relitavely short amount of time, like 2 hours or something. I am kind of proud--I mean I know that I have a long way to go--but compared to my last attempt at color, I improved much.

You guys, I am psyched about this pic!!! I know, I know, it's probably just plain not that good, but still, I'm allowed to wallow in my ignorance and be excited about it! Note that I did use a photo ref (obviously I didn't look quite like that in the picture, lol) and the eyedropper tool to get my colors. It was basically a color study, and I kept being so surprised at what things were the same color, close colors, different colors and whatnot. Just goes to show I need a ton of practice.

I was talking to my dad about learning color like I was doing today (oh yeah, this only took about 4 hours by the way (only, peh)), and he said that computer colors are messed up. I still think that if I can look at a photo and pull colors off it without and eyedropper tool, that is at least a step in the right direction. And I can test myself and correct my mistakes, too, whereas if I just go from life I'll be stuck with whatever I come up with, and potentially stuck like that for a while cuz I can't correct myself. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts on my work in general? I really want to improve, and I've been working really hard. Am I practicing good, or are there better ways to be spending my drawing time?

Uhhhh, I'm gonna just say that those white dot things are light through tiny holes in my window shades.

Haha, anyway, here is my latest pic. I would probably tweak the hair a bit before I called it done, but it's about as done as it's gonna get. From a photo ref. Because of that reason, I felt like I needed to do something with the brushwork so I still had some creative input. I'm not sure I'm ready to do a color SP from life yet. Maybe first I'll try one from a photo without using the eyedropper. And am I being stupid adding borders? I'm just experimenting, but it feels too much like that filter binge that everyone goes through at first....lol.

I'd love some comments on my progress. I'd also love to see some more self portraits from other people! I feel like I'm the only one keeping it alive!

Oh, and Gygaxis, I just noticed--I really like the reflected light in that pic you posted.

Here goes!

Latest works from last month oct

Oyvind: funny to find this comparative to two typical american stereotypes. but that is cool statement from another perspective. and I was in US and found myself meeting with the different attitude there than the media way I get here in Sweden. Anyway I fell me more european/japanese at design :D

Mega Muffin: it was a suprise to look at your latest contribution. it was big advancement, I believe.

My lamp and I

Mega Muffin: the last one was a definite improvement, much better light than before. As for the border... I don't see anything wrong with having borders that aren't razor-sharp and ruler-straight, but I don't think yours really adds anything to the image. You might want to stay away from filters if you want borders, scan some stuff in or just paint them. That'll look more interesting and less synthetic.

Here's a vector-like portrait I did ages ago.

Although, in real life I don't look like I've been sucking on lemons. Very Happy

I don't wear pearls much, either.
