Great work everyone, I am really liking FallDamage and Ranath's latest. Hey, any tips for beginners, please let me know dude! It would be very apreciated. I am very new with the wacom. Anyways, here's my latest. A quick sketch of an idea for my HL2 mod "Wretched Abandon". A city in the moon.

Lingy, what's up with you turning into a painting mad man in the last few pages? Your skills seemed to have shot up, and I'm curious as to what you've done? Don't hold out on us man! :p
thom- nice lookin traditional skills you got there.
wiredgear- Thanks. I'm curious, what is your role in the HL 2 mod and how far along is it. I'm a pretty big fan of that game (like most people who've played it) and I've been waiting for some quality single player mods to hit the public like the old days of HL1.
Falcon- nice variation on our usual fair here. I never think to do simple things like that.
SquarePixel- I'm just lookin to expand in different directions. I was gettin sick of doin those environments again and again. Sweet city by the way. You use photoshop, eh?
annisahmad- nice, I really want to do some space scenes sometime.
Ranath- some sweet form and values. the color variation is varied in just the right way too.
miles- I'm not exacly qualified to crit you, because I think that, basicially, you're a much better artist than I am. I think that if you simplified more, and employed greater contrast between your lights and your darks, that your pieces would increase in quality dramatically.
seth1- What can I say? ...I'm hooked on the movie rectangle
Another foray into painter. One thing about that program is that I don't have nearly the same color correction urges as I do when I paint in photo shop. My ps paintings, I tinker with curves and contrast and coloration endlessly, but when I get a painter9 painting done, I might up the contrast like 5 percent, but color and value wise, I'm much happier with the finished product without tinkeration.

Nice, I am liking what I am seeing everyone. I hope to be as good as some of you guys some point. I still need lots of learning.
Ling-0- Great work, I love the color values you put there. Great character.
FallDamage- I like you're landscape paintings, you're really good at that. As for my HL2 mod, it's basically multiplayer. Based in the very distinct future. We are actucally quite done with most of the concepting phase, but we have started on the modeling phase, finishing up 2 factions (weapons + characters) and all of the items by jan- feb (we hope so)
. We are being interviewed sometime this month and we will be showing a character model with a weapon (of course, a nice rigg to go with that) and some art from me. If you would like to contribute some art to go with the interview, that'll be great man. Any help will actually do to expand our art section.
Jr- very nice man, love the black and white.
Capt. Fred - Very nice, I like the fact that it's not too detailed but yet enough details to imagine what you wanted to paint.
Anyways here is another one, more training for me.. :/

Wired- My free time is about to get axed for the next little while, and my main focus with respect to art right now is having fun with it, so I don't know if I want to get totally involved, but if you want to message me with some general thematic picture elements that you're looking for, I'll keep'em in mind as I speed paint, and if I produce something that may be of use to you, I'd be glad to send it along.
More painter experimenting.

Lucky I come after FallDamage: Great Landscape, as always! Almost like in PS.
What clouds, you asked. Well like those you have right there...
Thanks for the flattery. Below I tried to follow your advice (simplify, deeper contrast). I admit using smudge and levels a little.
On my journey into drawing I found out that talent is really the talent to not quit trying. Anyone I know who kept trying for long enough, endet up with descent skills.
That was drawing. Painting I feel, is completely different. Especially choice of colours is a complete mystery. When I look at art, I see that you can do everything with colors, but when I use them as random as I think I should to avoid the dull and obvious, it becomes a mess, or kitsch.
I really have MILES to go!

Miles- See, I think that does look better. And I agree with your idea about keeping at it. That's my strategy anyway.
Try this site on for size - http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm
I'll pm you about the clouds, since it's really no big deal, and I won't take up space here with it.
Bill Back, that design shows some real sterngth in its angles and value assignments.
Still crashing my way through the painter brush interface. Pretty damn complex, but there's a lot of nice brushes and tools hiding in there.
For some reason though, all I see are trees when I let myself go in that program.

P-Rik: thx for the rundown on the story etc.! Very interesting!
I practice martial arts myself: I did Taekwon Do for quite a long time and I am now trained in Shaolin Kung Fu by chinese monks.
Sorry, I don't know any particular Karate movies...they are rare as you said.
I think Sonny Chiba did a few (weird & gory) flicks with Karate in it, but I am not sure...
my brother would know- he is collecting every martial arts movie there is...
ECS: nice to see you here! great stuff!

m@ neat! As I discover there's a brush for every need in PS - guess you know them...
Had to try the cloud thing right away, FallDamage (good example again!). Sorry for disregarding contrast and simlicity. It is mostly Charcoal-smudge on grey gradient, plus a field outside berlin with my dog.
