You might have seen this thread on other forums.
Sorry if anyone gets offended by the crosspost.

I decided to make a picture using a reference.
My goal was to obtain realism from the reference,
but also to change and play around with the message the reference had, to my own personal taste.
I chose not to post the reference at this point (will however do this at a later time)-
because I would like to see what kind of feedback I might get without posting the ref right away.

(Some of you might already have seen the reference.)

To do this in a row was fun, but my hand hurts... :}

There are some miner things I don't like with this picture.
So I might work it through some more later.

I also made a process chart to give you an idea on how I worked out the picture.

It's rather damn large so I won't post it here.
But here is the link.

http://www.diduct.com/images/process.jpg

I am going to add a step by step tutorial for this process chart as soon as I get the motivation to.
I bet it won't take me more than a few hours, a day or two to get to that. Smile

cheers

That's your best work yet, ap. Really nice image.

Need to make the baby's face more like a baby's face though. Top part is fine, but the bottom half is a little Fred Flintstone.

Thanks alot.
I am really glad that you got the impression you did.
That is exactly why I decided to make teh picture in teh first place.

Sumaleth
That makes me feel so good hearing.

Thanks for the good crits. I suddenly get the feeling that I will work this image through alittle more, after a few speed paintings and some beer.

Thanks alot.

Yeah, I agree with Sumaleth,

He needs his ear to be tilted aligned more to his face, moved up and moved to the left a bit. And he needs more back on his head. I think it's the narrow head and the ear so close to the face that makes people find him adult-looking. (If they notice it at all)

Other than that - great work. Really.

(Also, as someone chained to the ground by drawing and lineart, I find it extra nice you got such a good likeness without any sketching. When/if I get to a point where I have that kind of brush & shape-control I'll be getting drunk celibrating.)

I hate to bump this.

But I want to thank you Jo for the kind words and critique.

It inspires me so much to know that people really watch my work.

Thank you all!

you made my day.
Thats lovely. But there are a few things/idees which you might want to work over or add

Maybe some more bubbles around the little girl's face.
More "floating" hair of both characters would likely intensify the impression of a under water scene.

I love the warm restful feeling of your image. Its not clear to me wheter they gonna "sink" or ... however... thank you for your step by step image and your stunning art!

That's brilliant setting. Great work!
More floating hair would be cool but I find very underwater already.

Wonderful.

I don't know, but to me, the praise should be more for technique rather than idea or concept, mood, lighting and all that stuff because those belong to the photographer. He did post the reference photo above, and he did point out his intentions to bring across the realistic feel, which was quite nicely accomplished.

Wow, a thread of mine got bumped. Cool!!!

I recently got hired by Massive Entertainment,
a game studio based in Sweden.
(working there as a level designer).

This gave me less time to paint, which really is a pitty.
I hope I will be able to get back into the game of beeing a everyday sijun poster soon enough.

Thanks for all the kind comments people. They all mean alot to me.

Thanks again.
