you'll always get better with more practice man..
as to whether you're wasting your time or not.. that's up to you...
do you consider drawing.. even bad drawing.. to not be worth your time?..

Practice is essential, but also... you have to want to do it.. That is more important.

Practice,practice,practice...thats whats its all about.Dont do anything with color at all, dont even try that man, just sketch away like a madman.Sketch all the time, when youre in school, when your sitting by you computer, when your watching tv.Always keep a sketching-book near you.

PRACTICE!

one thing to make sure and try is sketching from real life not from photographs.
I would start trying quick 5-10 second gesture drawing of people and actions around you.
always start with a gesture and move on from there adding in basic shapes,
then start adding more detail.
it takes a lot of patience to make drawings look the way you want.

I see a lot of potential in your sketches, you already have a fairly good sense of perspective and shape, just have more patience, especially with shading, take time to really look at shadows. Try drawing a face by just drawing large shapes and shadows.

here is kind of an example that i found

http://users.bigpond.net.au/laing/phil/scrib/craggy-face.jpg

try different media as well, charcoal works well to start, kinda messy though

As some people have said already, start going from life. My biggest improvements came when I began taking life drawing courses. As well, don't be afraid to reference from other work. This stuff is great though, keep at it! Very Happy
