Hey everybody, thanks a lot for checking this post out. After learning my lesson with several free website hosting sites, I'm finally going to fork out the dough for a .com website and I'm wondering what advice the digital artists here have as to where to go. There's so many people here with their own domain and I'm just wondering what site they signed up with, etc. Mainly I'm concerned about price, the lack of banners, and server speed. Thanks a lot everybody |

If you are paying more than $15 per month for less than 300mb of space you are wasting your money. There are several dedicated hosts that offer around 500mb of space for $10 or less per month.
My website takes up nearly 350 or more mb of space, so I need alot of space. But, then I get free hosting from a friend...... |

The cheapest I have ever seen was a host offering 500mb for $6/month. Search CNet for some great offers on hosting.
Also, search the internet. The great prices are out there you just have to look for em.
Also look for a 99% uptime guarentee, because then they prolly wont suck. |

I have been the web hosting goddess. I keep trying new hosts, and trying to find new deals. Sometimes, "you get what you pay for", so cheapest isn't always the best. I like Readyhosting pretty well, but I have been with them for less than a year. Time will tell. (But they have COLD FUSION!!!) There are other hosts that are very good, check out CNet, like Cheny suggested. |

I use hostsave.com for both my sites. They're fast, they're cheap, they've got extra MB of space available for very decent rates--and best of all, they've got virtually 100% uptime and great tech support.
Whatever you do, DO NOT use Interland. They are a TERRIBLE company--their servers crash ALL the time, their tech support is a joke, and their prices aren't competitive. Also, they state in public, on their site, that if you're not buying their most expensive package, your site is less of a priority for them (they've got reliability graphs for each of their hosting packages--not too impressive.) Check this out if you want a laugh at their expense: http://www.rattysghost.com/cgi-bin/journal.cgi?folder=journal&next=53 |

If you're after something cheap and live in the UK, you might wanna check out a company called Freeola. It works out at a buck a month for unlimited web space (I'm using 240MB at the moment), email names and domain. BUT they charge you to use their isp, and that's the only way you can upload files. If you're making regular updates, the costs could add up. But to be honest, I've had enough with Freeola and want someone that can suply MySQL and other features that Freeola doesn't >_<#
Pay more if you want reliability and no server down time also. |

ugh. well, I know i'm paying too much for my hosting. I'm paying 109 euros (somewhat 95 dollars?) for 20 mb. The payment is annual. The prob is, most sites need a credit card and I don't have one (i'm only 18). This was the cheapest I could find in finland that sends you the bill, on a short notice. Well i'm taking only 9 mb anyhow atm (and i've got some temporary files there too), so I don't really mind the lack of space. I only have html pages there, and i'd delete some of my older drawings anyhow when i'd get bored of them.
oh well, i get the priviledge to run irc bots, i get my own domain, one email address and an unlimited amount of email address aliases, so i'm not complaining. |
