Concept for a planet fly by. The producers of the film which this is a concept for, wanted a cartoonish, yet realistic feel to the look of the film. Hence, the rather garish, overblown blue and stars in the BG.

Yes, the ship is a 3D model, and the planet began a s a sphere with a simple procedual map to establish the shereical perspective. The starfield is retoched Hubble photo. Everything else is painted.
