I am told this doesn't look like me.....oh well, at least it kind of looks like a person! I think it's my best so far, even though it's really not a 'finished' piece. Lol, there are like white spaces where i erased and re-drew the eyes..whatev. Noses give me so much trouble!! Argh! I think I still have alot of work to do in black and white before I even attempt color... I gotta get one that looks good and looks like me and I'll be thrilled. Might take a while though, lol.

Yeah, insider, I thought of that too, lol. Oh well. I'm not such a sad person. Here's another one I just finished! I think I'm getting better....who knows tho. Someone I know said it looks like me. I think it does at least a bit.

Here are a couple more. One from yesterday and one from today. I know the color is crap, but it's basically my first try at it. The shading looks like dirt, I know, lol.
I know this isn't a crit thread, but I would really appreciate any advice you guys have to give me. If you notice things I'm doing in like, all of them, it's probably something I'm not aware of, and it would be stellar of you to point them out . All ya'll's portraits are so great, and I hope someday I'll get that good. (I'm still a senior in highschool remember! I got time!)

muffin:
You might benefit from spending more time on one portrait. Each image you've drawn has the same problems as the one before, so it'd be worth putting all that time into reworking a single image over and over and over until every part of it is right.
It's probably best to focus on the front-on format for a while. The angled views only add complications.
Think about the effect that every line and every piece of shading has.
The best one so far is probably #3 on this page. Look at every detail -- are the eyes the same size, the same angle, are the top eyelids that shape, are the bottom eyelids that shape, is your nose crooked, do the corners of your mouth really line up under that part of your eye, does your mouth sit out as far as it looks in the image, can you see that much of your nostrals when looking straight on, where does your cheekbone sit and is it drawn correctly in the image, where are your eyebrows, etc, etc.
Don't stop until the image is you. And don't be afraid of changing brush size, and zooming into the image. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

Thanks for the advice! I will definately do that. Lol, I cracked up when u asked where my eyebrows were..yeah they are so light that u pretty much can't see them unless there is no shading underneath them. And it seems like alot of the time I zoom in, it looks weird when I zoom back out. Really though, I don't think I would have thought to do that had you not suggested it. Thank you. |

This was how I started.
This is how it ended up. I'm pretty proud of it, but I'm afraid I lost some of the vibrancy and feeling it had during the initial stage.

Odds: Thanks. I bought a 21x15cm mirror yesterday that I can also put next to the computer so I can try some digital SP's from now on.
With pencils it is hard to fill in the large shadow areas.
Petri.J: LOL, guess you're right in a way. Wish I had his skills though |

I've posted this in conceptart, and even though probably nobody remembers me here, I think it's only fair that I post it here too.
Today is my birthday, I'm 29 now. Although I wish it would have been sooner, I managed to change careers from software programmer to illustration and I've realized that I've never been so happy in my life as I am now. The internet forums, mainly conceptart and the so called golden days of sijun, have had a major impact to me, and I have to be thankful to them for helping me discover myself. Thanks sijun forums! _________________ www.RogerTallada.com |

Roger...
I can relate. I also moved from programming into illustration as the digital hardware and software evolved into truly useful tools for making art... back there in the early 1990s... and it will only get better, eh! _________________ HonePie.com

Hahaha that's awesome you guys. I want to move from computer programming into art someday too. The funny thing is, I haven't even gone to college yet so that is like my 'plan'. See, I figure it's safer for me to go into computer programming because I know I will be good at it. As far as art goes, I'm not so sure, so I want to give myself more time to get good at it. Anyway, just thought I'd share. |

Just felt like giving some comments...
@ Mega Muffin, that last one really shows progress! Much better.
You look scandinavian?
You should only zoom in after you have gotten the basic shapes right its very important.
You seam to have problems wth the area around your eyes.
Also try to understand what it is you are painting.
Other than that very good advices from Sumaleth.
@Grendel Khan, buzzz3d
Nice sp drawings!
@MidgardSerpent
Very vivid and living.
@Capt. Fred
Very god!
@the_insider
Nice!
@syl20
You look a litle scary
@Odds
Nice and poetic!
@Skuli
You will get there! You have problems with lack of colors.
@Mephistoau
Cool!
I think it might lack some light on the upper part of the chest.
But its very nice! |
