Startin this thread to see if anyone would want to join a long-deadline finished-image challenge in the style of the CG Challenge ones, but here on the finished work board.
Why not just do the CG Challenge instead? Here we can lose some of the pedantic structure of it, and enjoy some extra democracy, and also here there are no prizes. Um.
Agree on a general topic, 'The explorers investigate enigmatic alien-world ruins' for example. Pick a deadline, get cracking, and come date, post the finished images in a thread full of gorgeous, planned and polished artwork where we can engage in mutual back-slappery. With a generous deadline, there needn't be to much conflict with real-world responsibilities.
Anyone thinking, "Yeah maybe sounds cool, (but not with that crappy alien topic)."? |

I think I'm gonna join cg challenge, but I'll join sijun activity as well. I made quick 2 concepts for the cg challenge and obviously can't use them both, I'll do another in here. |

I like it...
yeah... the cg structure kind'a puts me off... never been able to get into it. Of course it is also clear that some of those highly structured artists are pretty damn hot! _________________ HonePie.com

Fantastic that was quick!
Subject and deadline to be decided in here,
How does 2 months sound? Longer?
Subject. Could have it quite Specific like the 'Explorers investigate enigmatic alien-world ruins' thing, or have it very General, to take the same example, like, 'The Ruins'.
Which would people prefer?
Add you own ideas regarding topic in here.
I'd be happy with city stuff or sci-fi stuff, personally, but then I'm not a big fan of fantasy, so don't let me sway you.
Regarding the scale/limits of the topic, I think i'd prefer 'Crash landing on europa' to 'design a space whale'. ie. A more open-ended theme. |

something pretty general "the ruins" style is pretty good.
3 months deadline, it's the same as in cg challenge then? |

I think the idea is great Capt.Fred!
I'd like to join too actually. 2 months should be enough I think.
I actually never 'really' finished a pice. I don't even know if I am able to do this - but I want to try at least.
Since this is a challenge, will there be a winner or at least rating - 1.2.3.etc?
I think an offical sijun award would be nice and motivating...
The topic is great. Everything that is scifi-end-time-surreal-apocalyptic is perfect for me...
Will ideas, concepts, steps etc also be posted? |

How is this going to work then? To create enough awareness of the Challenge, I suppose it would need to be a sticky that sat atop the gallery/finished work board, with the brief stated. Basically an advertisement until the deadline comes when it becomes active with submissions.
I personally am not fussed about seeing the development work, but there is nothing stopping people from documenting their development on the WIP board where they can receive criticism and encouragement.
Max:
I guess all the names of those that submitted work could go into a poll and get voted on, for a competitive element. The winners prize is to offer constructive criticism on everyone else's submissions, hehe. I know I'd appreciate it.
May as well go for 3 months then. I'm a lazy bugger n'all.
What about topic then?
State what topic you'd like to do and we can try and agree on something.
Me: I'm happy with Alien Ruins. Or 'Scene of the Crime'.

Ruins sounds good. I might participate too, because I'm still waiting for the answer for the work that got me start that other theread. Although it seems strange, that 7 promised to participate, and 7 answered perhaps, and none of them has done nothing. Perhaps they are waiting for me to make a start. Though, still the problem is that I can't do nothing, until my "client" (if I can use that term) answer me.
But, the ruins still sound good. Make the thread. |

Yes, any excuse to do a more analythical work is good. I don't care about a contest aspect to it. I'm not against voting for winners or anything, but that's hardly an important point. I don't see that winning offers more than an ego- boost... I'll admit it would feel good to "do well" but I don't necessarely like the part of myself that feels that way.
Anyway, moving on:
About the theme, I think it would be best if it was something that we here don't often do, that would be a good challenge. Or maybe something open enough to leave space for people to challenge themselves in different ways, be it learning new techniques or studying new genres or "philosophical" approaches to painting. Personally I feel the most interesting thing with this would be learning to create credible worlds that serve a theme or such - learning to research and combine parts of existing design from the past and now in a coherent manner etc.
I'm rambling, it's late. In short, I'm interested. I'll try to think of some themes or starting points too. |

Dont worry PetriJ for your thread for which I'm one of the 7. I for one only need a few days to be free enough to sart something proper and I do plan something. further comments in the thread in question.
For the mather at hand I agree with you Affected. The same line of thought was in my mind all day.
I was thinking, since it would be kind of my first trully polished work that I should
use this occasion to really chalenge my self as an artist and concept artist wanabe.
I have experience in many trade like fashion design, graphic art, illustration and many interest in industrial design, archictectures, anthropology for example.
Since alien ruins type of subject seems to make some kind of senses for everyone it is fine for me.
My suggestions will be to make it as a study of alien civilization has far away from what we know as possible. What I mean is; what if I face aliens that dont live as human do. There life, appearance, way of life, communication, transport, whatever strange alien must do. .
What I would see looking at their world must not mean anything to me the stranger to them but still should work in some kind of logic.
May be difficulte to portray all this in a single image but he, why not.
This is where PetriJ thread comes in where I will be able to practice on anatomy and that is very inspiring. |

Oh jesus not already!
Okay okay, so
Deadline: 1st DECEMBER.
eyewoo:
If you want to make your progress public, it can of course can go in work in progress (?)
I shall ask about possibility of stickying it to the G/FW board for 3 months, (to create awareness of the challenge.)
If possible perhaps we could hold off starting too soon otherwise we haven't really given people enough time to decide upon the topic. I'm happy with the topic but I can't help but feel there hasn't been massive opportunity for other people to voice their opinions! |

OK FOR ALL RUINS OF ALIEN ORIGYNS
New suggestions to kick start things;
Words like; SCALE, PASSAGE, MISTERIOUS, INCONGRUITY, TRACES, TOUCH/PRESENCE, DISORIENTING
IF THERE IS RUINS. WHAT HAPPEN?
DISASTER, SLOWLY VANISHING, EVOLVED?
WHAT SHALL WE UNDERSTAND FROM THEM AS WE DO FOR ROMAN, GREEK&EGYPTIAN EMPIRE. HO, AND ALEXANDER TOO! |
