Welcome to my new online sketchbook!
Most of the following sketches are concept designs for a Sci-Fi adventure comic and done without any reference.
It would be nice to hear how you like the concepts.
This one is one of my more early character concepts... but it seems the style is not getting to the people:
I decided to work out the new concepts a little more:
'Bob' the robot:
The following one is an unfinished concept. I wasn't happy with her mouth so I drew a quick alternate version (see below):
C&C welcome!
Thx!

Petri.J: Thanks for your feedback! It is a little unusual you like the first one most because 90% of all viewers seem to not like the style of the first one at all. But I'm glad I found somebody who like it

I like the revision of the last girl myself. Any story as to why the glass broke?
Also, not too crazy about the drop shadow behind the robot. Kind of kills off any depth you tried to draw in him/it.
All nice stuff btw. |

Hi Chris,
I like this idea of yours with "New Hope", is it sort of like Titan AE?
You've done a good job here, but i've got some crits
I think one of the problems with the first picture is the inconsistency of how she is lit. her legs seem to be getting light in front of her, whilst the top of her body has a light from above her. also, the line width is very much the same, which makes her looks flat.
in the second picture, the girls face is skewed. by that, i'm referring to her left eye and face half (our right).. the hair line goes too high comparing to the other side, and the eye is "angled" and too far away from the center of the face.
on the robot picture, the face is more heavily lit up than the rest of the piece, which makes it look like it doesn't belong there.
the strongest piece here is definately the last one imo, the rendering of the hair looks great. i also like the last version the best.
Anyways, Keep on sketchin'! |

GardenGnome: Thanks for your comments! There is a story behind the broken glass... ... but I do not know if I will stay with it for the final story. I can't tell you exactly why the glass is broken because I won't spoil too much of the later story and designs. Watch out for more finalized girl designs soon.
notic: Thanks for your feedback! I never thought of 'Titan AE' when working out the story for this comic concept but there are some elements which are similar.
Thanks for the critique. The robot is wearing a white mask... that's why it seems lit up.
For today there is a first glimpse of the fauna of the planet where our girlies will 'land' :

it's too hard to differ tessla from her friend. in the comic i would be able to tell them apart.
the art is great (yea, i didnt like the first colored one either) and your monochrome style is awsome.
i wonder what will be the final style of the comic. as sketches it's wonderfull but how will the final comic look like? _________________ ToPeirA |

topeira: Thanks for your comment. In the comic you will be able to tell them apart because of the colors. The final style of the comic is not choosen yet. The stuff you can see in this thread is only the preproduction concept design and has nothing to do with the final comic which will be made later when all things are figured out.
Here is a (quick) colored version of the last concept and a new one:
More too come...

I will color the final comic in a more US-comic style.
Oh... and Tessla got a new haircolor ...
More too come...

Yikes! I agree, they do not look 16
The brother looks more 14-16. imo he is too physicaly mature for 12. The brother and sister do look related which is good, but the friend also looks related. Different skin tones, mouth and nose would help.
I realy like the texture.
I realy don't like the first drawing in this thread, especialy compared to everything else here.
Good luck on the comic! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ I just realised that my screen name is Wagner, but my last name is Wagner, I'm not making any references to anyone. |

I will be in italy for 14 days this month. So this will be the last post for the next weeks I think.
But it would be great if you still use the time to post your comments and some feedback
Shane2722: Thanks! I don't think they are looking like 35, but I agree they are looking to old
Wagner: Thank you for your detailed feedback. The girls not looking like sixteen is the biggest problem right now by many readers. I will work on a more younger look in the future.
Here is a little more of Tessla:
Cu all when I'm back from italy

Thank you for all your comments!
Sorry for no updates, but I have too much stuff going on and I'm working on a comic project which is still a secret... so I can't post anything from the artwork.
It has nothing to do with the creator owned stories in this thread.
I think you will see first artworks in 2006!
Best,
