I guess people like the second alternative version of the car better, because you can see a "shiny car" in there - thats "cool" you know.
Most people don't think about lighting, they think about whats going on in the picture. The picture you prefer has a way more dramatic lighting and the values are way better balanced. I think it just looks better to me too, because the lighting makes sense - in the other version im not sure where the lightsource is which is illuminating the rear part of the car way more than the front.
But people may see a really cool and fresh gold-metallic car and way more a dark car in a dark scenerie.
btw, i really like how the metal of your spaceship looks like.
