Updated version:
Attempting a few new things here for me. I always seem to quit right when I should be adding detail. I took this one a little further than usual, but still thinking I need to study out how to compose skin tones.
USE HEAVY CRITIQUING, I NEED IT!
Done in Corel Photopaint.

I think the hair here bothers me more than anything else...it wouldn't take a whole lot to change it from a limited shape to some real hair with depth and some strands that leave the main body... |

yeah, I think you are right. Before when I posted it I had the contrast up a bunch and it was hard to see the hair for what it is. It could use some working.
I think I found a hair tutorial or two at cgtalk and gfx boards. Might try to put them to use.
Thanks! |

i will try to be as constructive as possible -
it looks like a good attempt. the vegitation looks very nice and her posture too, but some adjestments can be made -
he forarm (her right hand) is way too long. should be about 5 inches shorter. her neck starts to widen too early. it should be almost parralel until it's end. her shins look like they need to bend more backwards. try to sit like her and see that your legs would not try to wrap the log but bend backwards , like when riding a horse.
fixing stuff like that will "sell" the picture better.
also u can improve the textures on the dirt on that little river's bank. make em less blurry.
i also would expect the tree trunk she's sitting on to become narrower as it becomes farther from the viewer's eye.
if the light source is coming from outside the picture than maybe it's a good idea to have a shadow dropping from the snakes neck on the dirt to emphesys the fact that it's protruding into the air. if it's not supposd to be protruding out than something here is drawn wrong.
i think u can add brighter spots on her. make some whites, even. just a lil bit to make her stand out more.
the trees in the BG look very nice, even though blurry, which i understand. maybe u need to make the owl's hole as blurry as the the trees so it wont look like it's been pasted there.
that's all for me... i think. i hope u wellcome my 2 cents. it's just my opinion. keep them coming. _________________ ToPeirA |

Very nice feedback! thanks! Tonight I will try to correct at least some of these...neck, forearm, ...not sure about the legs yet, I need more research to find how they would look...will try more highlights, and work on the hole in the tree and the shadow on the snake (yes protruding).
Thanks! |

i hope u dont mind but i took the liberty to have a 5 minutes editing to your picture. just to very basically show u what i was talking about. some of the things i pointed out where edited. some weren't
i will take the picture off the net in a few days, probably, unless u want me to do it earlier. i hope that it helps getting my point's through...
oh well... _________________ ToPeirA |

Thanks
I edited the neck a bit already, the tree, snake shadow etc....and the arm, looked similar to yours actually, but I just didn't care for the arm. Part of what I am going for is a kind of...primal look. Almost like apes which have an arm to leg ratio of 1 to 1...I am kind of wanting her to look slender and highly mobile.
EDIT: actually I went for a midway...just barely longer than your arm, but definitely shorter. I think it looks better
On the legs...hm....yeah that might work...have to think that one over. I realize that if she was riding it like a horse it would look like that. But I have also seen people more or less lock on to an object like that by locking their ankles together. Not sure if it is a terribly natural movement though. Then again foreshortening can be nice..hm...
Have to do the other changes then come back to the legs and arm I think. Still haven't made up my mind.
Thanks for taking the time! really appreciate it. |
