Hey guys,
I've been looking around for this for some time now... Google is no help.
This is a question for those who deal with USD; what are the freelance rates for illustrations?
For example, a book cover, or B&W painting, etc.
I feel like I get ripped off when I do illustrations by working for only $200-$300 per illus. which may take me more then 7 hours to make.
However, not being aware of the rates, I'm more vulnerable to people taking advantage.
I'm sure there are others here who may have had the same question.
If a thread relating to this has already been created, I'm sorry. I searched, but found nothing and then decided to post this.
Thanks in advance
P.S. - And if you guys know of any good sites where I can search for freelance work, that would be awesome [/b] _________________ http://www.annisnaeem.blogspot.com/ |

40-50$ an hour while you are building your portfolio. Market rate is closer to 75$. The big guys can charge over a hundred.
Of course, you usually won't bill by the hour. Just figure out how long a job will take you and multiply it by your hourly rate to arrive at a price. Remember to factor in extra time to allow for unforseen problems. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

For B/W interior illustrations, pen/paper RPG publisher can pay as low as $25~30 per piece, or as high as $75~$100 per piece (if you are a big name hotshot). For book covers (fantasy novels for example), a couple of grand is the low end. But if you make a name for yourself, you can get 10k~20k per cover--maybe even more (but we're talking about Michael Whelan's level of fame here).
For comic books, a page of pencils is about $100 roughly. Inks about $75. Covers about $300~500. But if you are famous, the prices can double or triple (or you just get hefty royalties instead). |
