Ok, the idea came out when i finished my last sketchbook, and discovered in grief that the stuff in it - though sketchy - is mostly utter crap, like testing fonts, clear failures, bad ideas, uninspiring unartistic blobs and random lines never to be finished. Feels bad after you've at least given it some effort.
But luckily, i forgot the book sitting on a table at work, and got some surprising comments out of people who dont draw at all, or have dropped drawing since "dunnowhyorwhenthathappenedbutitjustdid" (actual comment).
And yeah, they say you should let all the blossoms bloom, so here we go...
Just one thin red rule or guideline i'm interested in; post only stuff you think you've broke some sweat with.
Explanations, reasons, whines and own dissatisfactions are welcome when presenting your works, some backgrounds never hurt nobody. |

hey see, thats interesting; i've got so many crappy faces laying around here which kinda look like that: nose too big and untasty formed, the eyes look constructed without any emotion put in it, and the mouth doesn't really fit into the whole face, too. and, of course, the front head rages outward instead of inward...
to me, that always happens if i am not clear about what kind of character i wanna draw and when i just press "play" in my head and let the forms flow out of my brain nearly unconsciously. there is almost a guarantee that these heads won't turn out good.
a good head seems to require strong emotional empathy towards the character you wanna draw. have to keep that in my mind...
oh yes, wish i could post examples, but i have to wait for a new scanner for a couple of days first... _________________ known as "ChrisNix" elsewhere. |
