Hi folks,
did this one for my aunt. let me know what you think, and which area above all others I should do more on if I had time/skill enough.
Should come out pretty big, A2 kinda size, possibly slightly larger, (wallet allowing). Anyone know of any printing options for a sentimental/homely kind of print as opposed to commercial/'pro' looking prints? Printing on to canvas is good/expensive/ugly/overraterd/awesome?
dogref
If any one has any ideas about those background hills, clue me in. Thanks!

Awww, so cute.
The hills look pretty good, except there isn't enough value variation in them, I think. They look a little too flat because of this. Also, you should make the leaves have some more intense specular light on them (like the dogs do). If the dogs have it, the leaves gotta have it too. Nice work, overall; keep it up- |

The white outline round the dogs is just that. makes em stand out etc. the leaves are just a background, I'm pretty happy leaving them without highlights and reflections.
Thanks tho. |

Looks just fine to me. The white outline around the dogs works very well too. Its quite obvious its stylistic choice rather than lack of understanding of light.
Just one question, do you plan on keeping that green border? |

Not necessarily lose, but make it more dark or something. Right now its just distracting from the painting, very much so to me at least. |

Have to agree with glitterbug, the color of the border is distracting. The rest of the piece is great though, I wouldn't change a thing. Nice work Capt. Fred. _________________ DA Gallery| LiveJournal

maybe the DIY impasto paint effect really lowers the tone and makes it tasteless? |

I like it alot!
The teture is great on the tree work.
The overall painting has great colouring.
the bright sillhuete on the two dogs could be worked on though.
everything else looks great. _________________ Fru Tina Kttet |

Hey Capt. Fred,
Nice improvement in the second image. The first was nice but pushing the detail here and there plus changing to a darker more sophisticated border puts it over the top. Nice work. _________________ All of it is real...

thanks watmough. The hardest part was finding somewhere nearby. It was no pro print shop, it was just a high-street get-your-digital-photos-printed place. I printed it onto canvas to loose the clinical/commercial look.
the print was good, though the picture has a tendency to blend so totally into the background you can hardly see it when your head is pointing right at it. i got it framed and mounted so that's not just unprinted-on white surrounding it. Overall, it's cheesy but then I guess that's what's called for with something like this :) |

I like this, Fred. Looks pro.
Question:
what was the final image/resolution size?
Interested in getting some prints done as well. |

Started at 2,900 by 4,100 px (A3 size at 250 dpi)
Just before printing I enlarged it to A2- 4,100 by 5,900 same resolution.
Judging by the print, it wouldn't have made any difference to work at higher resolution, which looked as clear as it could have I think. |
