really odd.. it might be just me but does anyone else feel the beard (or hat etc) is green? I suppose its the relation with other colors in the picture that makes that effect because when I color pick in the beard area and put it on an empty canvas its brownish..
great work all btw.

oh yeah. Your orange background is just so much of the tone we know as brown (or something lol).. so that the other brown looks like yellowish green.. that happens to me always with blues, if I have cyan-blue painting, and I want to add purple, I don't take purple but dark sky blue.. (lol no idea if I use color terminology correct at all). If I have sky blue painting I really need to add purple if I want purple.. hope this makes sense. |

Daryl: Colors are relative to other colors that surround them. Your "green" might not be mathematically green, but it's just much more green than those red areas. It's that contrast that really makes the colors pop up.
Think about a bright blue sky. Then you add some grey there (clouds or whatever), and it can look warmer than the sky. If there's a red flag swinging in the wind, that can make the gray look cooler.. All colors are relative, and when you play with saturation, you can get nice color schemes just by changing between warms & cools.

Fantastic stuff people, can't find an english word to describe the stuff here, too great.
AllPeter, you recomanded I combine solid surfaces with smooth ones, you mean, stone with silk for example?
Pretty dissapointed with this one. Can't seem to find what's wrong. The background just makes me not want to go on cause I can't get it to be what I want, so the lizard suffers. Maybe another day.

Spiral
The only thing I'm really saying is that you should work more with contrast.
And then try to figure out how the light should work in your scene.
Thinking like that helps me alot.

Vyle : I love that spacegear portrait (I prefer the sketch to the illu, lines and shapes feels like they contribute more to composition the in the cropped space.) |

wow so much cool stuff here lately! Petri, igino, ax-hv (love that astronaut in the jungle) allpetter, sparth everyone! So cool! Oh and vyle those womens faces are kickin alot off ass. That last one is really great. I must say the first portrait of the vampire girl i thought it was made by spooge first, but seeing as he is such a great artist thats as much a compliment as i can give. I guess that since alot of people painting digital use the same techniques and same photoshop brushes alot of it has the same feel to it, but then again i guess the same can be said about regular paint with regular brushes. Digital is just so new that you think more about it. dunno if that makes sence. just thinking out loud.
Thanks for the comments back there felllas. Glad you enjoyed the picture. heres a new one. From ref. a portrait of my sisters daughter Jasmine.

Thx.
The birds expression rocks! Your Values are sweet as everytime.
inspired by Iginos first Mech in which he stay away from using dark values i tried to keep value-contrasts as low as possible while give saturation more weight to control the image and try to model forms out of them - anyway its still the values holding the picture together.

I havent done any art for about a month. I might end up just painting as a hobby as do acting and stand up comedy for a job.
