I was organizing my hard drive, and holy crap I have so many unfinished/abandoned WIP that it's just...scary. I can't really decide which ones to chuck and which ones to work on though. So, your opinions are wanted. Just tell me which ones you like enough to want to see finished, and which ones are complete shit and should be deleted from the hard drive.
1 - Moonlight Lovers - I abandoned this one for well over a year. Now I'm going to finish it. I didn't dislike it--I just sort of moved on to other things. I have so many ideas that I get restless and can't make myself concentrate on just one. I guess this one is like a modern tribute to Shakespeare.
2 - Tellurian Sky - This was my Grand Space Opera entry (from one of my epic sci-fi/fantasy screenplays), but I didn't finish it in time. It looks too busy, and I'm going to darken that blue guy by a lot so the values aren't so chaotic.
3 - Fix My Broken Heart - This was my Machine Flesh entry, also didn't finish on time. I originally had the little girl's bicycle at the right hand top--all mangled from a car accident, with trail of blood--explaining what had happened to her and why her "father/inventor" is heartbroken and fixing her. But it seemed to be too heavy-handed so I took it out.
4 - Foxglove Carries Out Assasination - From a spy story of mine. That silent moment before all hell breaks loose. I had all kinds of trouble with the perspective and scale on this one, and I'm still not entirely happy with it. But I think I'll paint it anyway.
5 - Till Death Do Us Part - Part of a series. The man and his wife are trying to protect their newborn daughter from demon stalkers. I've had this WIP for years, and just never got around to finishing it.
6 - Fairwell Kiss - Part of the same series.
7 - Angel Wars - I thought the composition was crap. I'll probably have to completely redo the composition if I'm going to paint it.
8 - Sunday At the Shop - This is from a sci-fi drama story of mine. It's about a young woman who's from some backwater planet, but moves to a glamourous and cosmopolitan planet to chase her dreams. It's like a sci-fi version of the "girl from small town moves to big city" type story. I thought it'd be interesting to do a sci-fi story that isn't about action, but just simple human drama about a girl and her life. I started painting this one, but I really hated the colors. I might attempt it again later.
9 - Thunderdome - This was for one of the Thunderdome competitions between eatpoo and conceptart years ago. You can probably tell the subject matter isn't really my thing--and that's probably why I never took it further. This kind of stuff is just not my cup of tea.
10 - Saucy - This one was supposed to be a collaboration between me and Bahn of eatpoo. But he kinda drifted out of it, and I ended up doing this on my own. I don't do tongue-in-cheek cheesecake much, but I really wanted to do this one. I might finish it.
11 - Princess At the Landing - An earlier version for the GSO challenge. Also from the Tellurian Sky screenplay.
12 - Synthetic Vanity - Another version of the Machine Flesh challenge. The idea was simply that in the future, brand-name body parts will become fashionable. (She's putting on a Gucci ear, not an earring. The other ear is in a box on the dresser)
13 - Kissing An Angel - I cringe when I look at this one now--it was done years ago but never finished. The figure drawing on it is pretty bad. I don't know what I was thinking. The subject matter is a bit cheesy too. (She's fallen in love with a statue of a guardian angel)
14 - War Games - A bunch of kids playing indians and cowboys in the middle of military base during the war. The real soldier are all wounded and solemn from the previous battle, but the kids are well-protected behind the lines so they don't understand how horrible the war actually is. It's supposed to be a stark contrast between the blithe joy of childhood and the harsh realities of adulthood. Maybe a bit heavy handed.

That's what I have been waiting for. I always though: "when will this guy finish these nice paintings!"
Alright, here you go:
4: great composition! Has a nice comic feeling. Definately worth to finish this one! A simple color layer would do it!
7: I always likes this one. It has a Luis Royo feeling to it. You should change the comp though as you said. I would recommend 3/4 view.
Not sure about both looking at the viewer. It's interesting thogh. Finish!!!
8: I really like this skech. Could be very colorful. I would change the position of the guy htough, seems abit out of place.
10: Very nice. Change the composition (it looks kind of cropped at the left) and use nice lightning to create mood.
12: Wonderful composition, you should really continue this one!
The others are of course also worth finishing, but these are my favourites.
Hope that helps. Good luck!!
edit: oh, and by the way, don't delet anything man, instead use a "crap folder" like me. Some of my best pics were inspired by old uselass crappy iages ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

To me all of those deserve to be finished, but ill give you my favs:
2: I love the princess/girl in white to the right, unfortunately shes wait lighter than anything else there, I suggest finishing this in a lighter theme
10: Lust because it looks funny
and
12: because that was just a great idea ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ DeadbeaT was here |

You've got great ideas! I wish we could see all of them finished. #3 is the one that really jumped out at me. I think it has a great story behind it and there is some emotion mixed in that isn't based around romance, which seems to be a re-occuring theme among several of your ideas. It's all really good stuff though. Thanks for sharing. |

on number four i reckon either the women needs to go wider or taller. ie. I think she looks too small, so if she's short he needs to look short rather than shrunken, and if she's not short than she needs to be scaled up in my humbly.
They're all very classic style, and all deserve a further speedpaint on top before deciding which to develop. Post the results! |

4,6,7, 12 for sure. Why? Just because.... I say so
Seriously. I really like many of them, but those stood out to me for various reasons all involving love and support ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ The Dark Ages was caused by the Y1K problem. |

3, 5, and 7 for me. They appeal the most to my sensibilities. Though, I think unfinished things remain as such for good reason... maybe join us at the speed paint and start freshhhhhhhhhh! Hope to see you finishing some of these. |

Are you sure you have the right numbers? Maybe you were taking the numbers from the piece above the ones you liked?
Everyone else - Thanks so much for the opinions. Keep them coming! |

Are you ridiculing my taste or my intellect?
Of course I am sure those numbers are correct. Didn't get offended by the way They appeal to me for various reasons as I said. On a general note realism is fine, but boring or best captured with a camera. I enjoy storybook type illustrations, traditional art, game art, vivid imagination, interesting characters and environments, good ideas, good composition, colours and the list goes on. Was just hoping I didn't have to justify why I like them although that would probably have been more useful information to you. I like them all, just those stood out to me which in turn is subjective.
Three is great but to be honest I find it a little offensive even though it's a doll. The idea is good, it's the portrayal of the young girl and it's not looking like he's fixing her. Slight culture shock I think or maybe art is supposed to provoke! My turn to hope I didn't offend you. _________________ The Dark Ages was caused by the Y1K problem. |

I was wondering because you said "love and support." 4 is an assassination. 7 is a captured angel by a demon, and 12 is about vanity, with only 6 with love and support in it. But if you look a number above them, 3 is about love and heartbreak, 5 is about protecting loved ones, 6 is about love and parting, and 11 is about the princess and her protectors. So, I was thinking maybe you misread the numbers by one lower.
3 would make more sense once it's finished. He's supposed to be holding a tool in his hand, trying to mend the tear in her neck. There will be numerous tools laying around the operating table too. |

Sorry to be so brief and I see now how I unclear I was in the first post. I meant please finish the ones I picked not because I say so, but with all of my love and support. I'm dying to see them finished.
I blame the lack of coffee and rush posts hehe. _________________ The Dark Ages was caused by the Y1K problem. |

I still like #3. I didn't even realize the girl was subbose to be a live human, or atleast was. I made up in my own mind a story that it was a guy that had built a robotic daughter and he was putting her back together after an accident. I think it's because I looked at the picture but skimmed the description. The way the shin is laying on the table it looks like it's just ready to be re-attached, and having the hook up from the machine connected to her head only re-enforced the robotic daughter creation in my head. Weirdness. It's still my favorite of the pieces. |

Andromeda - I tried to do a poll, but there are too many choices and the code won't let me do it.
jinnseng - actually, you are correct (why did you think you were wrong?). The inventor created her as a cyborg/synthetic/android because he wanted a daughter. We don't know his background story, but we can tell that he's heartbroken that she's had an accident and is trying desperately to bring her back to life. Maybe he had a daughter before and she died, so he recreated her--perhaps transfering her brain to a new body, and that's why this accident hits him realy hard because it's like losing her all over again. However, this time, he could actually do something about it--and he's going to try to fix her no matter what it costs him.
MCMA - Ah, gotcha.

Hmm, I think it was the mention of blood. I guess I wouldn't associate a robotic girl with bleeding. If that makes any sense. |

Ahhh. But if she's a cyborg, she'd most likely have blood in her. But if she was a synthetic/android, then maybe not. |

Ok, I'll stop talking and start voting
Personally I'd like to see all of them done, but I'll try to pick the ones that stand out more:
1- I like it and it's almost finished, so this one shouldn't take much time
4- I like the concept and the story behind it =)
10- It'd look nice with your style
11- It looks interesting and I love SF
12- I like a lot your pin ups, so this one should look great finished
14 - I like the concept and idea, but right now looks a bit "blurry", I don't see very well what is going on, but I know you can make it look good
So that's it. As I said before, I'd like to see them all finished, but those are the ones I prefer right now =) _________________ "Ever forward, my darling wind." -Master Yuppa

Six, it stands on its own at an emotional level, and probably a historical and quality value, if you work it up and do your research.
Cheesecake is cheesecake is cheesecake...and yeah, well...there you have it.
They're all great to look at by the way, thanks!

1, 3, 6, and 12.
#1 is a NO-BRAINER- begging to be finished. might wanna consider moving that kicker light tho.
#6 is a NO-BRAINER - color palette somewhat estalished. composition is there. maybe a extend your frame to vertical to show their feet. And, there's never anything wrong with showing a lil' backside.
#12 is SOOOOOO ready in terms of composition. If you light this scene just right with a subtle palette....muuuuuaahhhh!
#3 - I like this idea and there's something weird yet intriguing about your color choices. I would play with the composition maybe. But, I like it...I dunno. I left this one last becuz your other 3 are begging for life and their simple.
Easy stuff first. Harder things...much later.
I'll piggy back on Fred and say give 'em some speed (color key) once or two-overs and see what you come up with.
Have fun! |
