Hi All:
My name is John Derry. As one of Painter's original authors (along with Mark Zimmer and Tom Hedges), I have been involved with Painter since about day one. I've been a longtime lurker in many of the online Painter forums, newsgroups, etc. That's about to change.
I'm happy to report that Corel has engaged me as Painter's Ambassador-at-Large. In this capacity I will be making occasional Painter-related announcements in newsgroups and web forums so users can stay on top of all things Painter. So you can expect to see me hanging around these parts...and don't be shy to drop me a line.
I thought you may also be interested to know about some new Painter news that was announced today (7/12/05):
1. Painter IX 9.1 Update is now available! Here are a few of the highlights of this update:
Dual monitor support in Windows versions has been significantly improved. You no longer have to stretch the application window across both monitors. Palettes, toolbars and the toolbox can now be moved outside the application window. Dialog boxes will appear on the same monitor as the active canvas.
The Digital Airbrush has been significantly improved over Painter IX, resulting in much smoother appearance.
In some isolated instances, corruption appeared in RIFF files after saving. This has been fixed and no longer happens in Painter 9.1. Extra special thanks to those of you who sent in your files to help us pinpoint this issue!
Find out more and download it at:
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3%2FDownloads%2FSupportDownloads&pname=Corel+Painter+IX
2. For a limited time Corel is offering the Painter IX at the Upgrade price if you have *any* previous version Painter (including Classic/Essentials), or any product from Corel, or any other graphics apps including Photoshop, Freehand, etc.
Find out more at:
http://store.corel.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/HomeDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10103
That's all from me for now.
Cheers,
John Derry

Hi pixlart, nice to see theres the possibility of direct contact to people behind the software. Things like this should happen more often. After all both parties benefit from the feedback.
That offer seems to be really great and while Im pretty much a Photoshop person myself, that sounds tempting even to me. Apart from the fact that its only valid in US/Can/UK, but that is hardly news. |

I'm going to stick with Photopaint as my primary app, but I like Painter for quick sketches. Couldn't pass up the new version at that price. You've got my 200 bucks.
Welcome aboard, John. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Hi John!
What great news to hear you'll be active in the forums. Makes me think of the old days.
It's extra great, for us, that you'll be open to receiving e-mails and I hope Painter users will make it as easy for you as possible when they write to you, with clear, concise information and enough detail to make sense of whatever it is they're writing about.
Guys and gals, John Derry is a terrific guy. As he's told us already, and I'm happy to say again, he was one of the three original Painter developers and has remained involved all this time, helping Corel to continue making "his baby" (and ours!) an increasingly wonderful program, that began with the genius, talent, imagination, and all 'round enthusiasm of those three developers, Mark Zimmer, John Derry, and Tom Hedges. For this, I owe them, and Corel, my heartfelt thanks as Painter has been my love for a decade now and has never for a moment left me bored or uninspired. It's amazing how it continues to inspire and continues to surprise me with hidden secrets just waiting to be discovered.
John, in addition to being terrific in general, is a relaxed and friendly person with a sense of humor to boot, and deserves to be treated with generosity, respect, and appreciation. He's earned it with his own generosity and talents as you'll soon learn!
If you don't know much about John Derry, you'll find out by reading the:
Corel Painter IX Website
Corel Painter IX Newsletter, The Painter Canvas October 2004 through April 2005
May 2005 Issue
June 2005 Issue
Again, welcome to the forums John, and thanks for always being around, from the beginning.
Most sincerely,
Jinny Brown

Those links you cut and pasted were condensed into a short form and contain an ... ellipsis instead of a full path.
I'd like to read them, but they're all incomplete and broken. |
