Hi all, I just recently acquired a graphics tablet and am very new to digital painting. I'm sure this question has been asked a million times before, but...
can anyone link me to a good set of photoshop brushes that simulate paint brush stokes, marker strokes or anything else useable? I've searched the internet with little success and I don't have a scanner, otherwise I'd just make my own Wink.

Much thanks!

p.s. I'm really looking foward to posting here. You guys and gals seem to be an extremely talented bunch! Smile

hey, if you want to simulate traditional media, especially that rich oil look, try artrage. the link; http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html

as for photoshop, there arent too many good brushes out there that are downloadable. not to my knowledge at least. you'll have to create your own..
good luck

Hi guys,

You'll find loads of custom Photoshop brushes on the Creative Mac site at:

Creative Mac Downloads

Look carefully to find the custom Photoshop brushes as they're mixed in with resources for other software.

Then, at the bottom of the list of downloads, click the link named "DOWNLOADS ARCHIVE" to find more.

Since I'm mostly a Corel Painter user, I can't say how good these brushes are but if they're anything like the ones David Nagel creates for Painter, they should be great.

Happy painting and Happy 4th of July! (U.S. Independence Day if you live somewhere else in the world and don't happen to know already.)

you don't get the "3d paint effect" in Photoshop. You can achieve pretty much anything else quite easily in Photoshop though, with default brushes.

You most certainly DO! It's called the Bevel/Emboss Style effects, and is customizable to include textures and patterns as you paint! Read your User Help Files if you don't know how to use it...
Also, read this...Sheesh!

That's a neat trick, for sure. It's not a substitute for the Impasto effect (gloppy paint in Painter and Artrage) Ranath mentioned. I could be wrong, though?

It comes damn close if you play with it awhile and tweak depth, light angle, etc. I've got KPT 5 & 6 also, and between the Layer styles and an occasional bit of KPT gel for the liquid molten gold colors, I seldom pull up impasto, although I'm still kinda fond of Liquid Ink...
Adjusting brush spacing, and using the airbrush to build up paint helps, also.
