Hey ya'll,

Here's some personal work.. Haven't had the energy to do much painting for myself in over a year, so I apologize for not posting much lately. This painting features a new take on an old character I designed by the name of Black Jack Betty. Based on pin-up icon, Betty Page. I'm hoping to get the chance to do some more paintings of her soon...

Kinda going for a "new school b-movie" feel with this one...

"The Grave Yard Shift"

Here's a link to some full res cut-outs from the piece.

Here's a like to the reference I used for Betty's face.

Here's a link to the old "BJ" Betty design.

Hope ya dig it.

Crits and comments welcome! Smile

The figure drawing is kinda shaky (I'm not sure if her head should be turning that much). The scale of her head seems too small for her body. I also think that maybe you are putting too much lighting on everything--no atmosphere. Should have parts in complete darkness or heavy shadows.

Thanks for the reply luna. Smile

As far as contrast goes, I have heavy darks showing on my monitor. Maybe your contrast isn't set high enough, or your monitors showing too bright? Of course, my monitors contrast could be too high...

Let me know if this looks better to you.

As far as figure drawing goes... I've attached my sketch.

Thanks again for the crits. Glad to know there's nothing that you actually like about the piece... Rolling Eyes

lunatique's right about the darkness. yes you have parts in total shadow, but what you dont have is a real focus on an overall light scheme, as the eye isnt really drawn into a focal point of any kind. And you probably should resize her head alittle, which shouldnt be too hard just select it and ctrl t it. make it alittle larger and move it forward alittle.

the detail shots r nice

Hey Malachi... glad to see you around...

Agreed about Black Jack Betty's head... It seems too far back on her frame and too small for the body size. I think it needs to be tilted back just a bit also...

Hey Guys, much thanks for the feedback.

I've heard that her head is too small from a lot of folks and that her head looks turned too far from some other folks...

So, how much bigger do you think her head should be 5-10%, or more? Do ya'll think I should change the position of her head, or do you think the size adjustment should do it?

Thanks again for the feedback. Smile

Sorry bro, I was in a hurry. I always enjoy seeing your non-glamour works, and I'm a huge fan of zombies in general. Can't say that I'm a Betty fan though. Very Happy

You seemed cranky or something... Glad to hear you don't totally hate it. Smile

I'm going to make some changes to the piece, keep an eye out so you can let me know if you think it looks better when I'm done.

Latez,
M

Don't know about the head here, didn't pay to much attention too it. What caught my interest however was the mix scifi fantasy vibe I got from this oh and offcourse the horror setting to it as well, I liked it. Smile
