An example of a quickie illo - 5 or 6 hours. Very simple shading with some gradients. Virtually no painting. All done with color filling selected areas.

Definitely a stylistic departure for you . . . wouldn't have pegged it as yours if I'd only seen the picture. I'm not crazy about the line work on the characters . . . seems a little too dainty and sparse maybe? Or maybe the lines should be darker shades of the colors they surround? It looks a little like cel-shaded 3D to my eye. I like the staircase though. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

I tried the colored lines approach and wasn't happy with it. However, Some of the lines are much lighter than others and some I knock down with lower opacity... but the thin lines are liked by the client. I tend to like them as well.
It's a style I use for a school text book publisher that I do a lot of work for. Here's another example:

i like the first and the third one, but imo the perspective in the first one is a bit off and the boy in teh second one looks... uhm... bad _________________ *

Neff... Actually the perspective in the first one is the way I wanted it to be... sort of a warped fisheye view with an accentuated perspective on the girl sorta leaning out at you. It is definitely off.
Here's another one - perspective is not an issue with this one
