does anyone know why windows xp would decide that jpeg files are vbscript files and not open them?
edit: and now it's doing it to all kinds of random media files.

Sounds similar a problem I'm having with perl and cgi files- I've assigned them to open with Dreamweaver and they open up fine from a windows file directory, but then when I try to open them though Dreamweaver itself, it says the file format cannot be recognised or something! Any ideas?
edible, What you could try is going to Tools, then File Types and assigning different programs to open up you files? Or try installing windows xp again on top of itself? Maybe you installed some new sorfware, which has reconfigured your settings? If so, there's always the system restore option. |

yeah, i think i might just have to reinstall it. i did change the program that opens it, but i had no luck. it's almost looking now like they actually have somehow been changed to vb files from jpeg ones. a few jpeg files are being recognized as text files that are about the same size as image files would be, but the rest are all 12k vb files. it's so weird. |

Thats happened to me, I reliezed I had downloaded a virus, so I booted into safe mode and decompiled it.. it was pretty nasty inside I thought I had deleted it but later found out I hadn't when someone else opened it.
Changed all my mp3 and jpg files into itself (a vbscript). The person who made it has some proplems. When you look at the comment tags it goes on about dedications and what not.
Let me guess, it changed your start up web page too.
Hmm, that was a while ago. |

yeah that's it. i should have realized sooner but i'm not the only one who uses this computer and the other people who use it are barely technologically literate so i wouldn't be surprised if it's their fault. |
