Hey all.
I did these in February for my portfolio.
The rockterrain took about 30 hours and the factory thingy around 9.
Critique is very welcome.
Cheers Pringle

Emm, also, if I may offer one small crit. To me, at least, -in the rock terrain pic- the perspective on the building closest to the viewer looks a bit 2 dimensional, almost as if we were viewing it in profile. It's got something to do with that bottom bit. Again, it might just be me that thinks it's a bit out of whack. Otherwise, great work. |

Great pics.
And falldamage is right about the nearest building in the first image -- feels like we should be looking up at it more. _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |

you own me pringle
rock textures are particularly well handled, i can see where falldamage is coming from, think it's less to do with perspective and more to do with the fact it's the same saturation all the way up the buildings up front, if it were gradiated up, light at top it'd give them more of the illusion and help the atmosphere, great perspective though, and, i'll say it again, the rockwork is insane. Diggin the colours in the second too, can see strong progression in your stuff man |

Great work Pringle. Awesome atmosphere and nice use of scale...as usual. : )
I have to agree with what has been said above. I have to add some things though: several parts don't look finished in your pic like for example the rocks in the middleground on the left, and maybe these three rocks right infront of the factory need some retouch. The sky is pure white, that might be realistic with such a dark foreground but I think some clouds would be nice. To create some kind of "flow" I would add smoke comming out of the factory. This creates depth, if made correctly, too.
Second one is very nice. Nothing to crit here.
Anyway, I am not half as good as you, so...don't take my suggestions too serious
Keep up the good work! Loving your stuff... |

I'm going to repeat it again: Scale and atmosphere! Very very nice! Do you start in B&W and add color later? |

I adore the atmosphere&render quality on the first one.
And as someone said before about the 2nd it may need somethig like smoke... so you create more depth in there.

Thanks for all your input! I appreciate y'all taking the time to comment on these.
Falldamage: Thanks. You are absolutely right about the perspective. Missed that one. I'll fix it one of these days. Glad you like my pics.
Sumaleth, Glad you like 'em and thanks for your input.
spyroteknik, I dont own nobody Thanks for your comments. I find it really hard to keep a fresh view on my stuff when I've starred at it for to long. So its cool to get critique from a fellow artist.
Max, You hit the bullseye. Smoke is a good idea. Yeah some parts are unfinished. I just couldn't whip myself into finishing it. Nice observation regarding the foreground rocks. I agree.
Anthony, A picture says more than a thousand words, thanks! It just begged to be added.
Heysoos. Kind words. I really dig your painting style, keep it up bro.
del3030. Thanks man.
Misc. thanks. You are making great progress. I dig your recent speedpaint,
scene2d.jpg it looks cool:)
I started in colour. The first one was a pretty straight foreward process. With the second one I played around with a few layes before slapping on the paint.
Kimmy, I'm flattered:)
Taotao, Cheers!
R.A.F. Thanks. And yes smoke is needed.
Again, very cool with the critique, and you all taking the time to post. |

The overall detail in the first image is amazing. The mechanical structure in the second is amazing. These are some VERY nice images! |

Thanks Guys!
Godwin, no reference. Which is pretty lame when I'm one click away from google. Just being lazy I guess.
oh, and btw. I've got a website up at:
http://www.pringleart.com/
Still some adjustments to be made. Haven't look at the typography and
need to upload a couple of pics. but all in all its done.
Later,

Hejsa Pringle (that's just Hi in danish)
Great stuff both on here and webpage. Would be good fun to see a painting you have spent a lot of time on with lots of details and stuff to look around at as complement to all the great concepts and mood boards. I'm thinking weeks or months hehe.
Was curious about your year in Beijing, China. What was it like and what did you learn most of all from there? _________________ The Dark Ages was caused by the Y1K problem. |
