Xia, Allpeter, thanks much, I've been working pretty hard at it. But obviously, I need to work harder. I spent a lot of time with this one, and I ruined it value, color and lighting wise. Blaarg, and it took so long. Pringle, you say that things like that asian street scene are dull, but I think that's exactly what I need to do for a while to prevent massive wastage of my time in the future.
Meh... I think I need to hibernate for a bit.

A quickie oil sketch with a single color.
I've gone back to traditional painting in the last few months and I'm much happier painting traditionally than I was working with digital. Going back to traditional painting feels like going home after being away for too long. Digital is like a shiny pair of new shoes that didn't feel very comfortable, and traditional is like that old pair of birkenstocks that fits perfectly and so comfortable.

i know you're not really big on this matthew, but why not slow down for a bit? take a couple hours to complete one every now and then. you'd be amazed at the result _________________ matt - rhodes |

ok I hope it didn't sound like I wanted to brag or something with my last post, Turners amount in studies is a future goal of mine and I hope I can break it some day. U know back in the 19th century he did approx 1300 studies when visiting Venice and this he did in the time period of 3 months, let us say 90 days and u have approx 14 studies a day. Really admire that kind of approach.
So the earlier post was a try I did today with making the amount of 14, really hard to achieve quality and speed with a large amount of studies, the mind gets confused. And, yea my works above really suck I agree.
Falldamage, it can be and mostly I am very poor, however, these are made on the same canvas and I just scanned them and then made another one on the top (size 6x8 inches). I used very cheap acryl colors too, comes in a pack for around 2 dollars and I still have paint left.
Isric, hey isric. I am sorry about taking the offensive last time you gave me a crit which made me sound like an ass-hole, I apologize about that.
My oil-painting might be a bit different than the stuff I post here so my speedies doesn't give a fair view of what I do every day. Mostly I consider speedies experiments and a learning tool but you are right I should spend some more time with my speedies to get better quality, hope to make both speed and quality to work together in the future.
Maybe I can post a finished oil piece later in May some time and you are free to crit as you may feel fit, me oil project is due within 3 weeks and I still have a lot of work to do, gonna be tight.
I actually learned a valuable lesson a couple of months ago when it comes to critique and other things.
There was a guest teacher helping out and she was at the school my first year aswell. Back then I really didn't like Abstract and what I felt was that the teachers was forcing everyone to think abstract, this I did get wrong though and they were just trying to make us think differently.
However, this particular teacher was telling me to add a bunch of primitives in my painting and I was like -"what the hell?, add a bunch of shit that doesn't have to be there" What she meant and what I did understand later was that she wanted me to add directions in the painting and make the composition tighter, this can be made with very small measures and or lines and whatever, simplified stuff.
Anyway, to make long story short I am trying to be as open minded as possible about critique given to me, I do know I can always go my way and often nowadays I am looking more for a style a la Matthew than maybe correct tecnique. Somehow I must find a middle golden path with this otherwise I will become too much abstract.
oh maan I bet no one will ever read this long reply.
hmm maybe I should hide more? |

Nice seeing you getting it on with the traditionals lunatique, sweet.
and pringle.. classy good looking scenery up there =)

Haven't posted anything here in half of forever, again. Been busy with traditional practice.
Amazing stuff lately, by the way, without mentioning any particular names!

Rassel Tassel: That is my favorite of yours. SO GOOD. I dunno why though.
Mitsui: cute
matthew: Sometimes I love you, sometimes I hate you. (; I mean that in the best possible way. I think you of all people will stumble on to something wonderful. Keep posting and as rassel says (NO HIDING)
anyway, this was a Matthew tribute that turned into a Sparth/dune tribute. hmmm, something to be said about shapes. super quickie here, I have too much school work.

octavian, raseel, lunatique matthew (that car!) levan gen pringle spooge doubot briscola idiran llama metaborg falldamage, everyone on this page has made it something special!
less speedy, probably showing up too dark - scene from asimov's book "caves of steel", great book, reread it recently.
edit - got my 'art of starwars 3' in the post. believe me it is f-me amazing amazing. dusseault is the hero for me, and the consistently high-quality ryan church, many other incredible talents. I haven't read the script in the back, but if nothing else, this film promises to be the best digital arts showreel on the planet.
the book's nearly as good as the film will be as far as I'm concerened. buy it.
