Besides, alts are nice. Maybe I'm the only one, but I like having a title or description pop up when I hover over an image. |

That's what the title-tag is for. The alt-tag is just there to be displayed if the image doesn't show up. |

i didnt know things like that had to be validated!
im confused with the errors that show up cause they work fine?
do i HAVE to alt the images or i get spanked by someone or is it something that is just a better thing to do?
wait a minute, what kind of disibility would it help to assist anyway!? _________________ www.briteshine.co.uk |

you don't have to do anything with personal sites like yours.
if you had some type of business site or educational site (most importantly federal site) then you would have to follow under the 508 section acts.
alt tags are for both, text will show up if images is disabled. they also make a pop-up box that people can see (hover over "post reply" on this message board to find out what i mean). also if a blind person visits your site the alt tags are read to them by the computer.
is it a crime you don't have it validated? no...is it good practice? yes. _________________ My signature is irrelevant

people with sight disabilities use something called a web reader to view the web, lack of alt text means it won't show in the reader properly..
thats also why sites have to be built in certain way and if you have a flash site u also need a text site, and some sites even have a text only version available..
someone took the Olympic Commitee to court because of their site, won and didn't the Olympic Commitee look silly ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |
